A quick review of the show:

The weather offered up a perfect 75 degrees F for the show's kick off. KC bounded out to appreciative fans wearing a T-shirt and decorated slacks. He had a small horn section backing him up along with a keyboardist, the requisite guitar and bass players, and drummer. Four mature female dancers (rare to see in a Las Vegas performance) added color, movement and flash.

The set list consisted of every smash hit gained throughout KC's 42-year, three Grammy award career. He mixed it up with a few of his ballads as well as hits he wrote for others (e.g., Rock Your Baby recorded by George McCrae). He brought in his own sound crew - which is a good thing. The sound was cleaner and consistently discrete compared to the usual muddy FSE-staffed fare.

I've included a shot of the lead sound tech working his magic below. There's also a more serious shot of KC looking out over the crowd as he recounts the past. I noticed after I took the picture that some in the crowd were looking at me - standing precariously on top of my high chair, right level with KC on the stage. They were probably waiting for me to bite it.

Security was low-key for such a large head-liner event. Though a perimeter was set up, it was not necessary to go through Security check points to get to the 3rd Street Stage. Only the immediate stage area was cordoned-off, and that was to allocate a large VIP area in front of the stage. The box "Owner's Seats" at The D were filled as was every seat at the VIP/private party held on the 4Queens patio.

A good time was had by all.

Glad you had fun, Bill. I wanted to go down there, but was intimidated by the crowds and being by myself. I did see KC a few years back at a corporate event held at The Joint. A very good time!

Did you meet up with any CD ers?

Sadly, no - did not see any of the regulars there. But, it's hard to tell who's there and who's not at these big headliner events on FSE. You know what I mean. There are just so many people.
