But the realtor is not likely to spend much time searching for you if he/she figures you are just looking and not seriously about buying (for example, you are never interested in seeing any of the properties on the reports)
Some realtors used to email me listing reports every week, basically just query reports straight from Realtor.com, which I can do myself.

I found my home in 2012 using realtor.com. But since I've relied on ziprealty.com until I found Redfin.com and redfin is all I use now. The search, the layout, the ease of use is just better than the rest.

Redfin is the best by far. The information is updated within a few minutes of entering the MLS. It is presented via a customized area map, a database for the same area making comps easy, and detailed information on each property on the side that can be opened in a separate tab. You can also find out how much a house sold for as soon as it is posted on the MLS. It is a fantastic website that lets you do deep research. I would pay for the service if it was not free!

I like Ziprealty. Easy to use and lots of tools. I can look at everything for sale in an area and look at all the solds in that same area. But no site replaces feet on the ground!

it takes realtors seconds to setup an auto-email of listings that meet your criteria... there's no need for them to spend much time on it at all... but yeah, some won't help if you're just kicking tires

What I like about Zillow is that it's very easy to see the comps in the area.
