Default cost of living calculator

Did a search and found this cost of living calculator. You type in how much your making and where you live. and it will compare to the place you wish to go. Kinda thinking about moving to vegas and would like some other folks who have recently moved to fill this out and see how true it is.

Ok, I'll bite at this.

Keep in mind, I haven't moved to Vegas yet, and the salary that I listed is a rough estimate. I started at my current job part-time and moved up to full time, so I'm basing it if I worked the whole year full time:

Salary in Nassau County NY:
$40,000
Comparable salary in Las Vegas NV:
$29,193.1

If you move from Nassau County NY to Las Vegas NV...
Groceries will cost: 19.594% less
Housing will cost: 40.942% less
Utilities will cost: 14.122% less
Transportation will cost: 5.725% less
Healthcare will cost: 8.933% less

Yeah. Don't know how accurate this is, but if it's even slightly true, that pretty much added another reason.

i looked at several of these b4 i moved to LV. the comparative salary calculated using this estimator (using my previous LA salary) is lower than what was calculated by some of the others i used. that being said, using the estimates of those other calculators i thought i would be making an even trade based on COL. i seem to becoming out ahead here, so this might be a more realistic estimate. my advice would be to look at several COL estimators/calculators to get a range....make your choice as informed as possible. thanks, Cap'n! So it seems that although I could maintain myself on 9K less, I'd typically make 2K less.... interesting

Depends on what industry you're in too. While employers "typically" pay X% less in Vegas, there are some positions that pay much less, some that pay more, and some that there's just absolutely no market for. Before you commit to something as major as a cross-country move, make sure your career is a viable one in LV, and try to get some confirmation on actual wages for your position- you may be sadly disappointed if you don't.........
