Hi,
I am a single female in my thirties, and I am thinking about relocating from California to Henderson NV. I am hoping to move to a place that is safe, that has lots of nice, friendly people, plenty of things to do, classes and activities for someone who enjoys writing, music, dance, acting, tennis, lots of creative things. Also, it's important to me that I move somewhere where it's fairly easy to meet people and make new friends. I would also hope to find a good, non-denominational church or Church of the Nazarene to go to. I am also health conscious, so I would like to live near places like Whole Foods and Trader Joe's to buy groceries. I also like to be out in nature and take walks and see greenery and trees and flowers. I was hoping someone might be able to suggest nice, pretty, safe neighborhoods to live in Henderson NV. I am hoping to live in an apartment complex. Also, how much are utilities in Henderson? Is the bill for air conditioning outrageous? Also, I would greatly appreciate just an overall opinion about living in Henderson, in general, and whether you feel like it is a good place for someone my age to meet people. Also, is the junior college in Henderson a good school?

Thank you,
PinkDaisy8

I live in Henderson and can answer a few of these for you.

I would recommend staying West of the 95. Safety is not really an issue. Very little crime, mostly property. Violent crime is virtually nonexistent in Green Valley, GVR, Anthem, Seven Hills, MacDonald Ranch, etc.. The violent crime I've seen is normally domestic disturbances.

The people here we've met and interact with are very friendly, much more so than New Englanders in general, and on par with Californians. There are so many things to do, that you'll need to prioritize your list.

I would recommend finding the Henderson events schedule online, as all of the things in which you are interested are present and happen often. We get a magazine in the mail seasonally that lists all of the events coming up (I just can't remember the name of the magazine).

Regarding apartments, I can't give much insight, but I know there are a couple on Green Valley Parkway between the 215 and Sunset. Also, there are some nice looking condo complexes on Horizon Ridge. My friend lives in a condo complex on Windmill/Arroyo Grande. Figure $800-$1200 for a nice place.

I am not sure how much utilities are for an apartment, as I have a house. My average monthly electric bill is about $200 for Jun-Sep, then $40 for the rest of the year. Water is around $40-$50/mo. I can't remember how much gas is, but it's not much.

Overall, I prefer Henderson to other parts of the valley, but, again, that's is a 100% subjective statement. It works for me because I am in a very nice, quiet neighborhood with great neighbors. I am a mile from the freeway that will bring me anywhere. I am 10 minutes from the airport, and 15 from the strip. Downtown is 20 minutes. Unless you're on Eastern Ave, traffic is extremely light. For us, it's a great location.

My wife went to CSN. It has good programs, depending on the program.

Hope this helps!

I live in Henderson. Its very nice. I also moved from California here. Be prepared to get up early to avoid the heat of the day for outdoor activities.
I own a home, so I can't say anything about apartments. I have friends that live in the large apt. complex on American Pacific just west of Stephanie that like it. Henderson has a whole foods on Green Valley Parkway and the I-215. TJ is up on Sunset. We also have Sprouts. I don't know what single 30 year old women do for fun, so you may be happier in someplace with other singles like downtown Las Vegas or the like. CSN is off of College avenue (imagine that) near Foothill High school. If you lived in the Green Valley area, its about a 10 minute drive.
The Henderson website has good info at Living in Henderson

OP, I am also considering moving to Vegas and am looking for similar things as you. I've done some research and the areas people have described are Green Valley Ranch (or surrounds) and Summerlin. Of course you can always do the Strip area or downtown if you find those two areas too boring. But I'm sure you know about those areas already.

If anyone knows of other areas outside these two... I'm tagging along OP's thread to listen.

Hopefully you'll have some nice neighbors soon enough!

Green Valley South, Centennial Hills, Peccole Ranch, Rhodes Ranch, Anthem, Silverado Ranch, MacDonald Ranch, Seven Hills, Spanish Trail, Lone Mountain, Horizon Ridge, Sunrise Manor (parts), Spring Valley (parts).. plenty of alternatives outside of those 2..

There is a lot of implanted greenery, trees and flowers but none of it is natural it was all brought in...this is the middle of the desert. I think if this is one of your big things you should look elsewhere...I think you may miss natural beauty if you move to the Las Vegas area. Also there is a real lack of community feel in the whole Las Vegas area so finding nice, friendly people wont be as easy as most places. I think with the majority of people not being from Las Vegas it is hard for people to feel a community when there are few natives and most are outsiders.

Hi my name is Gina...I currently reside in California..I am in my mid 30s. I am thinking about relocating to Nevada. I am unsure what type of jobs/careers to look into so I can afford a nice apartment as well as my vehicle expenses. I have seen some job opportunities to work in the casinos. A majority of work that I have done in California has been in the Customer Service, Data Entry, Clerical field. Any advice, tips would be greatly appreciated. I have also looked at apartments on trulia, apartment guide, and apartments.com
