For vehicle registrations and smog checks, go to a Jiffy Smog check location, and for a $10 charge, you can register your car there. (Don't get ripped off by other non-licensed services that will charge $89 for the service). Here's the DMV Link where you can find out what services can be completed without going to a DMV office.
For $0 you can register your car online in less than 1 minute. If you can figure out how to read a post in this forum you probably have the ability to use the DMV website.

Maybe that's why they were fast last month? When I got to the Sahara DMV (mid-morning) the line was out the door and deep. The parking lot was full. But, the line moved fast and my wife and I were both done in 67 minutes flat.

Your experience is not typical. You just got very lucky. I was at the same Sahara office recently and I was watching the huge line. It was barely moving. If it were not for my disabled friend, I would have been there all day.

My wife found the kiosk option. I think it is $3 to get a registration renewal. After a 5 hour wait last year on Sahara I'm all for online/smog location/kiosk.

If the wait were that long in Iowa the governor would not get elected again. They don't put up with crap like that.

That's three times now I've been to the Sahara DMV office and completed my business in about an hour or less.
