I just saw in a facebook page that Governor Sandoval was on "stand by" whatever that means.

In a day we'll have more of the facts. Initial reports are often inaccurate in the haste to get out breaking news.

Now the news has spread and our friends and family are texting and calling us to see if we're alright.

However, I'll just say it. The place she drove on the sidewalk into a large crowd was right in front of the Paris Hotel. Which harks to the echoes of the Paris attack.

She even made a deliberate stop where people tried to punch the windows to get at the driver. Witnesses in her direct path said she seemed to be gunning straight for them and didn't want to stop.

Was she under the influence? If it was alcohol did she need alcohol to do it? Was she disgruntled and it lowered her inhibitions and she snapped? Why would the police give her a sobriety test if they didn't question she was under the influence otherwise? Unless maybe they're used to drunk drivers on the strip and that is the habitual practice.
You made an interesting point regarding the location.

Very odd situation.

Perhaps the woman was frightened and just panicked when the people were trying to stop her. I really can't see a terrorist turning themself in (which is what was originally reported). On the other hand it's difficult to believe someone THAT impaired could have driven that much further without additional incident.

Mental health issues are another definate possibility.

It could be happenstance but a very weird one. The Paris hotel is right across from the iconic Bellagio fountains too. The first place people think of when they think of Las Vegas.

The driver was on the sidewalk, hitting people, then drove off and gained speed on the street to RE-ENTER the sidewalk and hit 10 more people. This was intentional.

I am reading that it was officially declared intentional.

But not a terrorist attack.

And Scoop will be disappointed...not a local.

First off let us not forget one person died. Say a prayer. Other people were injured. Say a prayer. For the person who did this? I want to say say a prayer.

Please don't take this to a political level or make any snide remarks. I think today people in general have become accustomed to death. There's no coming back and right now a family is going through that realization and of course consider the children who may have had to witness this action.

If prayer isn't your thing then please just in your own way show some compassion for those involved.

We can best show compassion by taking steps to make this more difficult to repeat in the future.

Effete hand-wringing and empty words is what got us to this point in the first place (in this current horror and hundreds of other societal problems).

Again, I'll bet whoever did this had a United Nations courtyard worth of red flags that were ignored or mollycoddled away. That is the failure of this city specifically, and society in general. Our priorities (both citywide and nationwide) are hopelessly broken. Drunks get multiple chances. Reckless drivers and scofflaws get multiple chances. Disturbed kids have access to their parents arsenals.

Can you imagine the utter [excrement]storm that will occur if the driver turns out to have a foreign-sounding name? Middle-Eastern in particular?

I don't understand the difference between "terrorism" and Las Vegas drivers.
