this will be my first new years in Vegas
I have heard many things about NYE, including that the strip and all vehicle traffic is closed for the night (approx 5pm on) my question is.. how would a local get to the strip to party? We have tickets for 9pm, we were planning on just getting an Uber, but how will they drop us off and pick us up and bring us home? i live near Decatur & Charleston what time should i call the uber/cab to get us there by 9pm? can they even get us there? i have never taken the bus before so i dont know that option (if at all..) and no we dont have a hotel room either - we just planned to come home afterwards. i guess we didnt know what we were in for!!

any thoughts?

I would advise taking a tank. Why? Drunken idiots behind the wheel. I will be watching from the second floor of my house. I still risk being hit by an idiot driver.

Seconded. We watch from our balcony. You couldn't pay me to drive on New Years. I'd rather get a root canal from zombie Katherine Hepburn.

Maybe a slight derail, but how will the 15 southwest bound be on the 1st (friday)? Early in the morning.

They shut 15 from Sahara to The airport, BOTH WAYS.
At 4AM you may.. MAY be able to get on 15, but if your going west, you get off at trop, and if your going east you get off past Charleston.
Then double back on local roads to your destination.

It's like being locked in a room with a chimpanzee armed with a machine gun.

Methinks she has a car, but doesn't want to be driving on NYE. I'm guessing she's planning on some alcohol consumption.

To answer the original question, the short answer is, leave it to the driver. The long answer is that even if the Strip itself is cloised, the roads that run behind the strip on either side will be open. And nearly all the casinos can be accessed from these.

I see the hotel rates go up for NYE. I was thinking it might be a good idea to crash downtown in one of the older places, but even their prices are double to triple what I've usually seen them going for.

What do you guys think the traffic will be like from Las Vegas to San Diego if we left the afternoon of Friday, January 1st?

We were thinking to do a three day weekend roadtrip there and back next weekend, but we didn't realize it would be right after the New Year. Hmm...

I would rather have genital surgery performed by a meth addict with a weed whacker.
