Well let me start off by telling you that I'm not crazy and I'm not a fruit loop.
you're just saying that over the internet because I can't reach out and pysically grab you. Trust. And to thee old lady. I'm from the 5 boroughs of New York City and I'm street smart like a motherf-----. Also I came to upstate New York with 20 dollars in my pocket. Not saying I would do that again but I do have a plan. Go with a acople thousand and play broke at a mision for free stay and get a job. I am bilinguial and I work harder than a mexican if I had to. And I'm not your average waiter like "Hi can I take your order". I have spark and 16 years experience. I've gotten 8 job offers so far and it not Wendys. If I stayed in New York she would bother me aggravate me and so on. She wopuld pick a fight, and with no sracthes on her call the cops and get me arrested. I spent a day in jail b4 and she didn't even press charges. Oh and I don't gamble. I just want a place to go to school with no bother. I've never been single b4 and don't want a relationship, and I plan to come back. The most people make here is like 15 hr and they are so racist it's NOT funny. Smiling at me like lookat this black man working, multi-tasking and not robbing people. I hate it. Been up here 10 years and with her 9 years. I want a change. If you've never waited tables b4 it's because you can't deal with people. But I can. Respond please!
Las Vegas is your type of town! Many, like yourself and in your type of predicament, move there every month. Please, move there quickly...and far away from Upstate NY. If you don't move to Las Vegas, I suggest you head down to Long Island. You seem like a good fit for either of those places.

Ok....we'll keep him (Concept, not the OP)...LV can take the rest of the country's lost and down-and-out souls looking for that one last chance to magically turn things around. Just wondering...is that how you ended up there?

So then why are you constantly coming to a Las Vegas forum if you hate the city so much? Shouldn't happy upstate NY residents be posting in the New York forums, yet I don't see any posts there?

I just looked there and didn't see any that you've posted...please provide the link?

I don't want people moving to where I live...therefore I try to put it down as much as you have been doing.

Here's a true story...there's a little local diner (Mike's Diner) where locals stop for coffee and breakfast during the week. We all know the owner and know most others by name. It's a tiny diner...seats maybe 24 people, tops. We don't usually go on the weekends, because non-locals visiting the area usually stop in. However, we were heading down to visit my dad (in NJ) on a Saturday a few weeks ago, so we decided to grab a quick breakfast there on the way down.

My wife and I are sitting there and up pulls a brand new black SUV. Its hunting season in Upstate, so these 2 guys jump out of the SUV and are dressed in camo suits that look like they just opened the FedEx package from LL Bean. Nice, new shiny knives hooked onto their new-looking belts, too. The owner comes over gives them a menu and asks if they'd like something to drink. They each say coffee in that horrible LI accent...cough-eee. I look at my wife (who is a native Upstater) and tell her that they have to be LI'ers. She's amazed and asks how I know...I tell her the 'cough-eee' is a dead giveaway. She bets me that I'm wrong, so I check the SUV...and sure enough the trim around the plate says Sayville (LI) Ford.

Anyway, because the diner is so small and tight quarters, we start talking to them...I left the island in 1988...but wish it was much sooner. They start telling us how they are up here to 'bag a deer' and how much they love it around here and how they'd love to move up here with their families. Sensing that this might truly happen, I quickly try to point out all the 'pitfalls' of living Upstate and no matter what I say, they come back with some rationalization of why it isn't. I say 'you have much better schools down there'...they say 'but you pay less taxes!' I say 'there's no good libraries like the ones in every town on LI'...they say 'but you pay less taxes! Besides who needs libraries when you have the internet?' I say 'it's too cold and too much snow'...they say 'they love to ski!' (Hunter Mtn, I bet!) No matter what I said, I couldn't convince them how bad () it is up here.

Anyway, we part amicably, and I get in my 1995 Honda and drive away...just shaking my head that no matter how bad I tried to paint the area, I just couldn't sell it as a bad deal (to keep them away!)

So, MomMom, feel free to trash away at Upstate NY...you'll be doing me a favor, and might be more successful than I was. That's also why I don't post anything good in the NY forums...it's just fine here without them. But if you feel so inclined to get on the NY boards, please do...and trash 'til your heart's content.

Now....LV....I love to visit...but would never want to live there. I don't puke (sorry, GJ) or get too drunk and rowdy while there....just gamble (too much, according to my wife!) and go on side trips. Got married there in 2001. Brother lives in Summerlin.

I'm not a fan of nasty Long Islanders either, you can keep them, upstate is somewhat similiar to the Island anyways, but cheaper of course, so maybe that's why so many of them find your area attractive. Close to their relatives and family and all. And I know that town your talking about...Sayville, home of the Fire Island ferries.. What an overcrowded place, no wonder these people you met were looking to escape, I don't blame them! LOL!!!

And I agree, THAT ACCENT!!! Walk the dawg, make a cup o cawfee. Almost as bad as the New England accent..the cah, the apahment...

I got out of the the NYC metro/LI area in the 70's and never looked back! Lately, I even hate to visit my sister and her family there (Nassau county and Islip, Suffolk County), the area has changed so much...and not for the better either

And the two guys were right, THE TAXES! My sister pays $8K a year in Suffolk and my niece pays a little over 12k in Nassau county...WOW!

And no, I have no inclination to go on the NY forums to bash someone else's home, unless they do it to my home first...

Ahhhh...finally...we have some common ground, after all...our hatred of Long Island. Now let's put our differences aside and have some laughs, ok? All the familar suspects here know how I feel about living in LV. I fully expect most here to say they love it. That's ok. I just try to present somewhat obvious (and negative) views, mostly in ways that are an attempt at humor. I'm ashamed to say that I side with Sheriff's view...so I try not offend using his style.

Sometimes....I just happen to provide something helpful. I have recieved some very nice comments and rep points on my LV take, and you might be surprised that some have even mistaken me as a resident, to which I always clarify and suggest asking real LV residents such as yourself, olecapt and others. I do, however, still provide my own view if I have a working knowledge.
