Why is it so hard for you to believe that some people just dont like Las Vegas outside of losing their house/money? If it wasnt for the 115 degree summers and wanting a better enviroment to raise our 5 year old we would stay.
Economically yes it was far worse. As to where we are moving to, much better(last least in our opinion)-very little violent crime, excellent house market (the house we have an offer on is over 2000sft with an acre of land w/small stream for under 325k), and as far as economics I will be under 2 hrs drive time within 3 major cities

You said it right there bud.. there is no perfect place.. you have to find a place that fits your needs. If you think upstate new york(or where ever your going to move to) is a better place to raise kids, well... then.. the economy is bad?? the commute is long? Its the same ol' story. 115 summer days(low humidity) vs. Below Zero brutal winters?? Las Vegas crime is just like many large cities in the US. Move to smaller towns in NV, and there is really no crime.. you can even leave your keys in your car and leave your doors unlocked.
Bottom line is some people just have different needs from a place they want to live. Vegas has a lot to offer, but it really ISN'T FOR EVERYONE

I agree, for some people its great and more power to them. Actually we are moving to southern PA, not alot of snow and cold. The county itself has around 50k residents and is within reach of major cities so its perfect for my type of business. As said before, if I was single or even married with no children we would most likely stay but family considerations come first, and I do prefer east coast type homes (especially lot size)

Years and years ago, kids weren't even ALLOWED in the casinos, except for those "special" occasions. Las Vegas tried the "family" friendly thing years ago and it was a disaster..kids left unattended, roaming the casino while their parents gambled. Remember those shocking stories on 20/20?
I like that Las Vegas has gotten back to it's Sin City roots...in the tourist areas.
But those tourist areas are for adults on vacation who want to see, hear and experience all that stuff...not children.
Just my opinion.....

I agree MomMom, when I see so many people dragging their kids around the strip, I wonder what they thinking. I have been out there 6 times and wondered the same everytime and I have 4 kids. There are just so many other places to take them in the States, why there? I looked at it like it was my vacation. I have spent many other vacations camping, doing the amusement park things, going to kid friendly places, when I go to the Strip, it is adult time. JMO.

I myself think it is underated. I live in Henderson and I just love it. Sometimes I feel like I am in the Midwest as I have friendly neighbors. I like it that I can go out in the Desert and site see as well as help the environment by bagging jack rabbits and coyotes
I have lived in the East Bay Area, Southbayarea, the SF Peninsula, Denver, Boston, Southern New Hampshire, and now Vegas. I also travel all over the country for work for extended periods of time. So I have seen my fair share of places. To me they are all pretty much the same. Home is really what you make of it, and to me Vegas is home. There are stuff that I hate and stuff that I love about each individual place. No place is perfect. With every strip mall looking the same these days, I don't know if I am in Fresno or Bloominton Indiana... a living room in Indiana feels the same as a living room in Vegas.
I use to visit Vegas a lot to party, but now I don't go to the strip much. Only been like 3 times in the past 3 months, and only reason was because friends were in town. To me Vegas is a semi paridise. Even though I don't go out and party much these days, the best partying is always right around the corner. I can own a nice house with a nice pool, and the weather is good.
I got use to the heat in the summer. I can do 18 holes of golf when it is 110 out no problem now. 110 here feels a lot cooler than 90 degrees in the NH. To make it through 18 holes all I need is nice jungle cap to keep the sun off my head, remember to keep hydrated, as well as pouring water over my head ever so often. Cake.
Only thing I don't like about Vegas, is the job market in my particuliar field. If I ever have to change jobs, I most likely will have to move again.

Agreed that the Strip isn't always the best place for small ones, and that there are a lot less smoky and hokey places to hang out in Vegas, but the shark tank at Mandalay is a must-see for any kids, as are a few of the magician acts and softer entertainment that only the Strip offers, unless you want to drive to New York or Sea World.

Well, with about a 25% increase in new rooms the next couple of years, don't be surprised at any new marketing strategy that shows up. Maybe "maternity" hotels for foreigners to give birth to "anchor" babies, maybe a "club FED" for white collar criminals, but most likely, lots and lots of Mexican visitors. With revenue declining, the answer will be ANY pitch to increase volume, to those of any socio-economic level.
