dLas Vegas, like any other city, is what you make of it. I was born anf raised in Los Angeles Ca and I love my hometown. I moved to Vegas with my two children after my divorce for a more family oriented environment. Yes that's right!!!
If you would just get off the strip and fast life (that is in every other city) you would notice the nice new family oriented communities. Homes are cheaper than California and people are stupid here just like they are stupid in other cities. This is a transient town so I wouldn't trust people I don't know right away.
I'm sure girls are making out in the bathrooms and smoking dope at Beverly Hills High. Again life is what you make it...if you don't think this is the city for you..BOUNCE but don't bash it because of your own personal experiences. Other people still live here. I wouldn't say I LOVE living here but I'm happy and so are my kids and that will happen anywhere I reside.
Now go find a therapist for your childhood issues and move on!

Its sad but true, people like to bash because it makes them feel better about themselves. They hate it when people thrive in something they couldn't take advantage of. Sad..

I guess it depends on who is rating it! My wife and I host the Living in Las Vegas Podcast and as a whole, we love living here. The weather is great (if you like lots of sunshine), there is a lot of things to do, and the cost of living is much less than that of our previous residence (California).
From our perspective -- highly recommended!
Cheers,
-- Scott

I live here, and it was only on the rarest occasion (wedding or special dinner) when the kids would be allowed anywhere downtown or on the Strip. When we (adults) went to those places, we got a babysitter and kept the kids in the burbs and away from all the stuff that Sin City is famous for...
Years and years ago, kids weren't even ALLOWED in the casinos, except for those "special" occasions. Las Vegas tried the "family" friendly thing years ago and it was a disaster..kids left unattended, roaming the casino while their parents gambled. Remember those shocking stories on 20/20?
I like that Las Vegas has gotten back to it's Sin City roots...in the tourist areas.
But those tourist areas are for adults on vacation who want to see, hear and experience all that stuff...not children.
Just my opinion.....

I agree...Vacationing in Vegas on the Strip is NOT for kids!!! I can't believe it when I have walked down the strip at 12am or later and there are parents pushing baby carriages or dragging toddlers along. Shouldn't they be in bed!!! Or they're dragging them through a casino. I have seen kids standing waiting for their parents in a casino while the parents gamble!!
I'm hoping to be moving to Vegas next year somewhere around May. I'm looking forward to it. I know Vegas isn't for everyone but my boyfriend and I love it. Plus I have a few family members who live there. I've been doing plenty of research and we plan on coming out in April to look at apartments to make our choice.

Thanks Mom. We are really looking forward to it and are excited. We've been thinking about it for a while and finally decided to go for it. We're trying to save the money for the move now. We are not going into this too fast and without enough money. We're taking the time to save and research. We don't have any kids so schooling is not an issue. We love Vegas...

Only other place I'd want to live
The only other place I would live besides Las Vegas, and for the same reasons that Neil Patrick Harris gave in this interview. But Las Vegas is still TBCOTA.

I havent lived in las vegas very long but i must say that i am not loving it....nor am i hateing it. but i will say that it can get depressing. currently i am waiting for a restaurant to open that hired me two months ago. im not gloing to disclose their name but they are located in townsquare and never told any of the applicants that they were going to take so long to open. in the meantime, i have been looking for other jobs and its near impossible! i am a cna and a waitress and it just seems that every job i apply for out here has at least 400 other applicants who are just as qualified as i am! i have even applied at target and walmart with no luck! im not sure if its because the economy is so bad or if there are just too many people moving in and out of here, but its difficult. ive been looking for a long time and ive got a good job history under my belt.
another issue i have out here is that csn wont transfer any of my sciences! it just dosnt make sense that i can take courses at a well known college in CT and have them not transfer to nevada!
so, im going to try to stick it out. i think once you get on your feet here its probably great, because as some of the other posts stated, life is what you make of it. however, i just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who is thinking of moving here(especially now) that it is hard to find a good job and if you plan on going to school and transfering credits, be prepared to either re take some courses or try to fight the boad(thats what im going to do).
best of luck to anyone that moves here!

Hang in there! I went through the same thing when I moved out here. Once you get on your feet and have a steady paycheck, it will be Its not just Las Vegas, any city you move to and do not have a job secured, you will have problems finding work unless your skills are very specific. Hang in there and you will be ok.
