I've lived here since 1977 and kept moving away for the obvious reasons. Work always brought me back. Anyways, the heat. Enough said there. School district is at the bottom of the barrel. The cutbacks are pitiful for the school district. WE don't do the casinos so there isn't much fun here for us. We are at least hours away of going anywhere with some scenery. Red rock and Mt. Charleston is it for this town. One thing though the northwest is extremely convenient for getting shopping. If you like casinos, this is the place for you.

I have never lived in LV but my notion from talking to people on this forum is that many of the people in Las Vegas don't take advantage of it's strengths.
I am moving to Las Vegas in a couple of months and this decision is based off of the three times I have visited there in the past year.
When I visits I enjoyed the fine restaurants, fun shows, and beautiful women in the clubs.
When I move I intend on doing the same.
So for me I don't think it will be overrated bcause I will being doing the things Vegas is known for.
I think many of the people who live in LV take the strip and entertainment for granted and don't enjoy Vegas' highlights. Well then for them I guess it would be overrated.

I have always dreamed of living in Las Vegas and was just wondering even with the economy would it be safe to move there? I know it would be hard but I am a guy that grew up in Wisconsin and would love to be by the bright lights everyday and night

you got a reference for your highest unemployment claim? in recent data and a quick search i am not finding us to have the highest in the country (i.e. Unemployment Rates for Metropolitan Areas)
i know its not good here ATM, but that is kinda the way it is all over....and i am not finding us to be the hardest hit (we have just less than 8%, national ave is about 6.5%).

We are running along a little better than CA a little worse than AZ. Nothing surprising...and clearly not the bottom.

FWIW, the Dec. data moved the national avg. to 7.2%. Unfortunately, I think it's a pretty safe bet that even that number is going higher.

No. I've been in Las Vegas for six years and am pretty well established here. Own a home, have my connections, etc... Even with that, I'm feeling like its time to bail. Sure things will turn around, but who knows when. I'd wait if I were you. If you have some kind of very special skill that is in high demand here, then that is another story. But if you are construction, entertainment, service industry; those are industries not hiring. I think maybe we still need teachers and cops.
