Hey we ought to do a map to the burial places of all the mobsters. We could send hordes of tourists out marching in the desert. Set up lemonade stands at strategic spots and make a mint.
Hire a couple of illegals to give the map out on the strip...

So are the snakes and scorpions a concern in those areas?

Most of that was a comedic digression. The point was that in almost all directions an hour from the strip puts you in open desert. The three places cited are actually more than an hour from the strip though an hour or less from Las Vegas.
In general snakes are a problem only if you stick your hand under things in the desert. Scorpions are a rare problem though it does happen. Generally in areas with readily available water. The vast majority of people in Las Vegas have never encountered a scorpion. The kind that are noxious are found only where landscaping was brought in.

Yeah, I kinda figured it wasn't much of a problem, I lived in Forida and it's the same there with people worried about getting bite by a shark. Actually, theres more of a chance of living in the midwest and getting killed by a deer then living elsewhere and getting killed by either a snake/scorpion or a shark.

No, but a lot of dogs do when unsuspecting tourists bring them near lakes and ponds.

If you want a couple of acres, don't have any children that would be in school, and can handle a couple of meth labs in the neighborhood there is Goodsprings and Sandy Valley. Mormons chatting with the tweakers at the next table at the local diner not unusual. Very libertarian live and let live attitudes out there. Only crime out there when I was there was inter-criminal and if you believe the desert is beautiful it was gorgeous.
