It was a joke.

But on that subject, we all know the only place kids learn anything is at school. No chance
they might be taught at home in a way that is compatible with the families values.

Maybe in your home. I didn't have the benefit of reasonable instruction at home. I went to the library and read medical texts. And I also read Anaïs Nin. I learned more from Ms. Nin about sex than I did from the medical texts. But I learned more about disease and prevention from the texts.

But most kids aren't like me. School is the failsafe for the kids who either get no instruction -- or bad instruction -- at home.

EDIT -- I wonder if one of the requirements for being a conservative is abandoning all sense of empathy. Or maybe conservativism appeals to those who never had any in the first place. And I also wonder how many people are going to google Anaïs Nin because of this post.

I benefitted greatly from the great sex education program my school had.

Here's why school is important, many adults with kids still think that having sex standing up will end a pregnancy.

A us congressmen said that women's bodies have a way of shutting down rape babies of it's a legitimate rape. He said this in public and believes it.

People in general are not informed enough about much of anything to teach others.

This is a national trend. It is not unique to Las Vegas, and has nothing to do with sex education. Here is a recent CDC article. Concisely;

Quote:
In 2014, 83% of the reported male P&S syphilis cases where sex of sex partner was known were among gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men.

Here are the Nevada stats for 2013, also from the CDC. Not too much higher than the national average, given that thousands of people come to LV looking to party.

Quote:
Rates of primary and secondary syphilis, by sex
• In Nevada, the rate among males was 13.7 cases per
100,000 population compared to the U.S. male rate of
10.3.
• The rate among females was 1.0 compared to the U.S.
female rate of 0.9.

See, if they had sex education, they would know that just because a man can't get pregnant, yet, doesn't mean you shouldn't protect your package.

No wonder why it's hard to find single women...

What literature out there suggests a gay rather than heterosexual thing. As do the rates just posted.

If it is coming from the dating sites would that not suggest they are appealing to gays more than heteros?

All sounds weird.

A 6000% increase isn't some statistical aberration. And so what if it's homosexuals? They're still my neighbors. I don't want them to suffer any more than I want the straight guys (and gals) to suffer.

The point is that the spread of syphilis can only be stopped by a change of behavior. The MSM community is well aware of the dangers of HIV, and yet (also from the CDC):

Quote:
Co-infection of P&S Syphilis and HIV

In 2012, the proportion of MSM who presented to SSuN clinics with P&S syphilis infection who also were infected with HIV ranged from 18.5% in Los Angeles to 66.7% in Birmingham (Figure U). The median site-specific proportion co-infected with HIV was 44.8%. P&S syphilis was identified by provider diagnosis and HIV was identified by laboratory report, self-report, or provider diagnosis.
The change in behavior required to stop the spread of HIV is identical to that which is required to stop the spread of syphilis.
