I might be making the move to vegas and saw a townhouse for rent in the lvcc area its $1200 a month 1700sf in a gated and gaurded community. But it seems that outside of the gates is a very dangerous part of town does the neighborhood have a lot of theif is it safe?

You could move to a lot nicer areas for the same amount. If you look at a lot of the other post they say to stay away from the east side.

I think the area the OP is referring to is near Decatur, more central. I used to know someone that lived over there before moving to Aliante.
Info, you can do a lot better than that area. For $1200 a month, you can rent a great apt in Summerlin or The Lakes, or new North Las Vegas, or Centennial Hills..or..or...well, you get the idea.

LVCC is one of the best places to live in central Las Vegas. There are similarly priced places in the outer parts of Las Vegas that may better suit you, but not if you want to be close to the strip, great restaurants, nightlife and shopping.
I think it's plenty safe. The area south of the LVCC has crime problems, but its not like you are going to be wandering through these streets at night or anything. You can enter off of Desert Inn or Swenson and once you're inside the gates, you'll be just fine.

As Chest said. I consider it certainly as safe or safer than anywhere else in Las Vegas.
If the townhouse is on TamOShanter check it out before you lease. They range from exceptional to grundgy. Dependents on how long since it was updated.
You can deal with the surrounding neighborhoods with normal urban care.

Just so YOU know, LVCC is on Joe Brown. Behind the big hotel with an "H" on it.

I prefer Scotch 80's, but I can't imagine you would find an inexpensive townhome to rent in that area. It reminds me alot of Balboa Peninsula, my grandfather had a bungalow on Miramar. The street lamps and the enormous trees are very reminiscent.

Different. Scotch Eighties is single family homes. LVCC is a planned community with many kinds of housing.
