The cost of vehicle registration (for the same vehicle) goes down each year...not sure by how much, maybe someone else knows?

I agree its expensive to register your car, but why would it be expensive to maintain your car in LV? I thought the cold weather was harder on cars than warm weather? Do they have a rust problem in WI/IL? from salting the roads? I recomend with all the dust we have in LV, that we change our oil and air filters often. I change my oil every 3K and my air filter is a K&N reusable. It saves me $$$ in the long run.
I guess I meant that to maintain insurance and renew your car's registration out here year after year is pretty high. You're right about the midwest winters being murder on vehicles.
My last car in Milwaukee was a $300 Volvo station wagon, $50 to register it, don't think I paid sales tax cause the guy put $1 sale on the back. No insurance because that's actually not against the law out there (I wouldn't do that now, a bit more responsible). Got maybe two oil changes in 2 years and drove it into the ground.
Total car expenditures minus gas for 2 years= about $400. awwwwww yeeehhhhh

Total agreement here. I do my own taxes and have been writing off registration as well as sales tax for years. In the process of setting up my S-Corp so I can further shield myself from the self employment tax.

My former roomate has a 2006 Mustang also and he pays $350 for his registration (CA), and they have a huge state income tax. So I dont feel so bad with the $418.
I moved out of Diego in '93, so I was out of there well before the governator took over. I don't feel bad at all about my registration. I remember how state tax works in CA (as well as property tax, sales tax, etc.). It does make me dread the day I get my dream car (a little bit anyway). My registration, based on what I'm paying now, will probably run $1800 or so!

EDIT: I didn't realize my nickname for San Diego would be censored due to it's similarity to an ethnic slur. Whoops.

yeah, but the long term damage caused by the insane amount of salt they use in MKE can hit you w/ a big bill.

i had to replace the exhaust manifold on my F-150 shortly after i moved to LA due to the damage caused by winter parking on oakland ave (east side, baby!). and i couldn't find anyone to tackle the brakes out there due to the crazy rust...ended up trading the vehicle in before dealing w/ that issue.

Well, I figure my G35 is worth (or was when I bought it) $35K. My dream car is a 997 GT3 RS. I believe they sticker around $125K, something like that. So I figure that since the MSRP is just over triple, so should the registration be. I have been looking at (and drooling over) the new Audi S8 as well, since I have a family we will need a sedan. It's got that Gallardo V10 in it, de-tuned to 450hp. Wifey likes it alot, and that Bang & Olufsen system is sweet!! MSRP on that one is $93K. If I was fortunate enough to become that successful (it would have to be VERY successful for me to feel justified) then my registration would run over $3000, by my logic. Wish me luck!

Must be nice! I personally am liking the new CTS-V. If I had a sedan to pick, it would be that with 550 HP. But i'm just dreaming.. I'm quite happy with my Stang for the moment until the new Camaro comes out.

Yeah, the new V is sick. GM is really stepping it up between that, the new 'Ro, and of course the ZR-1. I hope you don't get the wrong idea, these aspirations of mine are just that. These cars, if I ever get them, are a long way off. I live well within my means and retirement comes first. If all else fails I may just get a shifter kart and get my track thrills that way.

You can estimate your vehicle registration fee from this link on the Nevada DMV website....

We just moved away and didnt realize how much better it was elsewhere until we left. Yes, Vegas is a very fun, exciting place to be, but for raising kids we are so happy to be gone from the fast paced rush of the city. I think if you are young or retired with no kids it fantastic. JMO
