Some friends of mine retired to Las Vegas a couple years ago. I asked them recently what their favorite casino was and to my shock, they said they had never seen any of them. So they had no favorite. In fact they told me they had never been to the strip or downtown Las Vegas EVER! They said they did not gamble, so what is the point.

My response was that they should see Downtown Las Vegas and the strip because it is there and interesting. Even if they don't gamble, why not go down there to walk around, people watch, go to shows, shop, eat at nice restaurants, look at interesting buildings, or see what all the hype is about????

To me, it seems so strange to live in Las Vegas and never going to the Strip or downtown.

Why would you go to the Strip and pay twice as much for drinks and dinner when there are so many great dining options in the suburbs? Downtown has some appeal to me. If I have friends in town I try to convince them to go there if they are staying on Strip.

Most locals go to a casino at some point. All of the bowling alleys and most movie theaters are in casinos.

I agree. It's a fun place to walk and the parking is free. You can hear a dozen different languages being spoken most days.

If you are looking for new ideas for tats or enjoy seeing drunk people, going to those areas are great ideas. If you like to be around a little class, drunkeness does not amuse you and you do not find over weight 20 year olds shoved into micro dresses and stillettos, then you spend your evenings and free time in the suburbs. Some of the best foods, entertainment and shopping is right there.

I like to go to the strip a half dozen or so times a year.

I always parked at MGM Grand and work my way down one side of the street and back on the other side. It's hard to find a better place to people watch. I would stop at a few casinos, play a little slots, perhaps a cocktail, and then find a casino restaurant for a meal, usually lunch and nothing too fancy. To me it is a cheap afternoon of entertainment.

With MGM charging for parking, I will not park there or spend my money at their casinos. I figure they have enough. Probably start parking at Fashion Show Mall or Venetian.

Well here may be some other reasons to live in LV
1. Entertainment shows and etc. and it always is changing new stuff.
2. Weather 300 days of sunshine low humidity not many bugs and creepy crawly snakes and etc.
3. No state income tax if you are working or retired.
4. Only 35% of you tax assessed value of your home is taxed for school and property tax.
5. Many people bought here in LV during the housing crash they got some great deals.
6. LV is located close to winter area Mt Charleston for the skiers 45 minutes away. Lake Meade for the boaters and fishing people only 30 minutes away.
7. Gun laws are more liberal.
8. Great senior discounts everywhere and usually being 50 and older qualifies you.
9. Over 3,600 restaurants in the LV valley so great dining experiences and food and pricing.
10. Most everything stays open 24/7 including bars.
11. Only 1 hr from the California border and about 4 hrs from LA plus about 40 miles from Arizona for travel and vacations.
12. Cheap flights from McCarron if you need to fly.
13. Many free things to do all over the valley and at the casinos without spending a cent gambling plus many wonderful nature parks Federal and State to explore year around.

I am sure their is more but I hope you get my jest now lets wait for the poster who will tell you all of the negative stuff and everyone can scratch their heads wondering why they live in LV. OH!! people watching is cool also I rate it just behind Times Square in NYC and one other place to people watch is the airport here over 45 million folks came in here last year from all over the world and the USA and you can gamble there and drink the bars are open 24/7 lol.

Yes, check out the places in the suburbs but what about expanding your horizons and doing both? Check out all options and experiences!

If you have no interest in the strip then why waste your time. To each their own. Some people are content doing what they enjoy.
