I noticed this today at my local Smiths. Not a bad idea to keep people from snacking on the stuff that's for sale.

That is a blessing to see... We need that at every retail store. Wal-Mart might be chaotic but I think they might be already donating most of their produces before it goes bad...

I saw the signs a couple times, but haven't seen any fruit yet.

It has been at my Smiths on Windmill and Eastern for a while now. I always eat a banana and orange from there when I shop.

I think it comes down to store management. I frequent two different Smith stores. One has the sign but never any fruit. The other is always full of fruit.

There is always plenty of fruit by that sign at our local Smiths at Aliante parkway. But I never take any, since it specifically states it is for the children.

The Smiths on S. Eastern I frequent has it, fruit in it all the time. I see kids with fruit all the time. I've never taken any though since I'm not in that age bracket.

You are in the wrong for calling me a criminal when I am not. When I first saw it, I asked the lady at the self-checkout if I could have some fruit from there when I shop. She said no problem since they constantly have to throw out fruit that has gone bad. I would not suggest anyone just take from there without asking, unless they are a child.

I am 39 years old and I think I have clarified what I said enough to say that I am not stealing in any way.

The wording on the sign is such that it can easily apply to parents or kids.

First off, it address the parents directly. "Hey parents"

Then it talks about wanting them, the parents, to have a highly satisfied shopping experience.

It goes on to say "As YOU shop today please enjoy a free healthy snack for your kids."
To me, this sentence means that Smiths wants ME to eat a healthy snack for my kids. Kind of like when you quit smoking for your kids. You quit a bad habit, or start a good habit so that you can be around longer for your children.

If Smiths intended this only for children, they should reword the sign.
