I went and found it to be incredibly boring. There's nothing really to do there. I'll put it this way, when I went to Laughlin, I took 500 photos. When I went to Mesquite, I took 32.

The fake waterfall at the casino is about all there is.

I would go there to play golf at Wolf Creek. You play from a lot of different elevations and people have said it's like playing on the moon. We plan on spending a night there next year on our drive from Chicago, just to check it out.

This shows a few things, depending on what your interests are: Mesquite Attractions - Museums, Art Galleries

Golf was what came to mind immediately. But I bet a lot of desert plants are still blooming in the Virgin River Gorge. Especially with all the rain.

I'm curious, I'd like to do a good day trip somewhere, any particular favourites?

Sometimes you just want to get in your car, fill-up the tank and head somewhere to check out, take some pics, eat at a good mom-and pop diner famous for their fries or apple pie and drive back. So, with that said there must be some cool ghost towns nearby there in your neck of the woods you can visit in a day.

Hey EA, I took a few pics of that same waterfall during my last visit at Mesquite . Not much to do there/visit unless you play golf. We also visited St. George so the trip wasn't a total bore for us. I found St. George to be a really cool city. Great mountain biking there, too!

If it cools down Death Valley National Park or Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge are both interesting day trips.

Desert National Wildlife Refuge just outside of town is having an open house tomorrow from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. to celebrate their 80th anniversary. The new Corn Creek visitor center is quite nice there.

Another day trip we did during the weekend involved visiting the Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge in the morning. While they do not have a visitor center, they have a nice picnic area so we ate lunch there and then drove to Overton to visit the Lost City Museum which was built in 1935 by the National Park Service to preserve Ancestral Pueblo cultural sites and artifacts.

Depending on the temperature hiking at Red Rock, Valley of Fire, or Mt. Charleston can make for a good day trip.

A couple of years ago my buddy and I drove out to Coyote Springs to play golf. At one time there was supposed to be a whole town/community built out there but when we were there it was only a golf course and few half-built model homes. They had just gotten electricity and had been running the whole operation off of a generator.

We drove and drove and drove and finally there it was. WAY out in the middle of nowhere. It was a nice course albeit a little difficult for the higher handicap player, but it was worth the price. It was actually quite busy, something you wouldn't expect for a course in such a remote place. I haven't heard they're planning on starting up construction again, but for a golfing day trip, it's an interesting place to go.

I still need to go check out st George if only to get my kids into another state.

My son has been in 12 states and my daughter has been in 21. I've been in 46.

I would recommend driving the extra 40 minutes to Zion National Park if you go to St. George.
