Your own transportation is a must. I see people at the bus stops everyday, but they must all have DUIs or be afraid of scooters.

It can be done but you need alot of time on your hands and the patience of a priest using the bus system.

And the ability to resist heat stroke. The OP should picture themselves walking to a bus stop, standing there, roasting in the 110 degree heat for an indeterminant period of time, riding the bus to a connection point, than having another period of roasting waiting for the connection, finally having to walk the last pitch to their destination. Then, when their done, they can reverse the whole process.

Get a car.

Note to the OP. I live in NYC, and am very familiar with life on public transit. I've been considering moving to Vegas for a while (actually I would have, but I'm a little stuck in NY metro for the moment.) But I've been to Vegas several times, and make a point of renting a car and getting away from the tourist areas. If you're looking to move to Vegas, you should definitely do the same. If you do this, you'll see the insanity of trying to live in Vegas without a car.

You could get almost anywhere on the bus. One thing about city transportation is they have checks and balances for being on time. Since it's built into their training, and their advertising, and their success, a greater effort will be made. The best information would be to ask someone who actually gets around using the bus. I'd bet they have the straight skinny on passes, getting from point a to point b, safety, cleanliness, etc.

Being out in the elements will speed up the time between coming out of spring type weather and get you acclimated to summer p d q, instead of running from air conditioned car to air conditioned mall to air conditioned car to air conditioned home, repeat.

As a resident, you will need a car. As a visitor on the Strip, a cab or walking will do just fine!

I have a friend who moved here from NYC. Lived there all his life. He has never driven. My biggest worry was how he was going to get around. He thinks the bus system here is pretty good. He has no complaints. He says the Flamingo and Tropicana buses are messed up right now because of road construction but so is the rest of the traffic. He has been here over a year now so he did it in the summer too.

But as someone else said, it would be miserable waiting for a bus in the heat. I would have to shower 5 times a day!

You get your bus passes, RTC ID, etc, at the main terminal close to Fremont St. On Bonneville and all buses go there eventually.

Since you are here I am assuming you have a computer. You can get all the info you need from the RTC site and bus stops are marked on most maps.

Not true lol. People take public transportation for various reasons not just these.

I will never forget my 2 hour commute from Silverado ranch area to summerlin. It was a long time ago and I did it for 3 months! It took forever! I had a car but hadn't gotten use to the areas there and I have a eye disease. I did it because I was working at a job I loved and was temporary. What I remember is it really depends on your commute as some bus lines are more rapid than others. Some of my transfers were slow as the area was not a flowing area and that was why it took forever. So if you are by some of the strip areas their buses are always coming by which means less wait time.

My favorite part of taking the bus is seeing all the people around you even if there is some you would have rathered never seeing. People are too spoiled in cars and I think is good to even expose spoiled kids every once in a while to the bus life. My kids were always sheltered but on a few occasions I have taken them on buses around city's and they love it! You also see areas of town you would never have, and is quite relaxing.

About 99.9 percent of the time I am the driving when getting around the area. When the rare occasion comes along that I don't have to drive, I see things that I never would have seen. It's amazing what you miss.
