You would think that in Vegas, with it's hordes of tourists as a potential audience, it's proximity to the hub of the music industry in LA, and it's lower cost structure, someone would try to develop both an original music performance scene and a local recording industry. It seem like it would be a natural thing.

You already mentioned the answer on your post.

Perhaps the local leaders could entice these big recording studio executives to have a satellite office/recording studio here but it's not going to happen. Well, our very smart officials already took away tax breaks for movie/tv studio companies.

Imagine the reach of movies and tv shows not just for domestic but international audience as well, for decades to come showing what we have to offer in Nevada and yet the tax break was taken away to give to the.......

The first time I was here there was a pretty good Prince cover band playing at NY NY I think. Back in 2002.
I don't even like Prince, but the band did a good job. In front of Harrahs they had the stage set up and revolved 70s 80s and 90s cover bands. We'd watch that some times. That's the extent of Vegas' music scene that I'm aware of.
Seems to be mostly cover bands.
