Do you live near Broadstone Talavera in Summerlin?
Can you tell me what the area is like? I am transferring from a Broadstone apt complex in New Mexico to that one in Las Vegas, and have not been able to go see it yet. How far is it to the red rock casino? To the strip? Is it a nice area overall? Thanks for your help.

Talavera is actually in Peccole Ranch, which is next to Summerlin and The Lakes. It's a good area, and very nice apt complex. I used to live across from it several years ago.

It's about a 10 minute drive to Red Rock casino. On a sunday you might be able to get there in 5 minutes. A half hour to the Strip and not much more to the airport. Take surface streets like Sahara or Desert Inn to the strip like everyone else does.
However, rush hour can lag you somewhat in the mornings going to the strip, so add 15-20 minutes just in case. Traffic also gets thick headed to the edges of the valley around 5pm to 6:30pm from the strip.

That was so helpful. I was trying to decide between a complex in Summerlin (Broadstone Montecito) and this one in Peccole Ranch, but I did not know if one was condierably closer to things than the other. I travel a lot for work so would like to have a reasonable commute to the airport. That info is perfect. thanks a lot!

I appreciate that.
Can you tell me anything about the surrounding area in terms of the calibre of stores, homes, etc? Is it strip malls mostly or is there an upscale, neighborhood feel to it? I am bringing my elderly parents and want them to feel somewhat comfortable. I also want to be close to red rock casino so that they can go there and avoid the strip when they are on their own. It's nice to hear from someone familiar with the area...that gives me something to go on until I can come to see it for myself.

Oh, one other thing
Did you belong to a gym when you lived nearby? Do you happen to know of any close by so I can check out their websites?
Thanks again.

It is a nice upper middle class area. The property abuts a reasonable shopping mall. The Library/Art museum is diagonally across the shopping mall, One of the more deluxe shopping areas is north about a mile at Fort Apache and Charleston. Includes a major Vons and a Whole Food and a hlaf dozen nice restaurants. The more convenient Casino will be the Sun Coast on Rampart (which is Fort Apache renamed) which is less than two miles north. It caters to the elderly from the nearby Sun City.
You might google 89117, 89135 and 89134 to find a gym.

mmckenna, your parents should be just fine in either location you choose. At Talavera, they can walk to all the shops at Village Square and that can keep them busy for hours.
I didn't belong to a gym when I lived there, but there is either a 24 hour fitness or an Athletic club on Sahara, near Decatur, east of Talavera by a few miles. Very active.
