this should answer your winter weather questions:

How low are the temps in Vegas during the winter?

We are lucky to get some cold weather a few times during the winter. Inside my house downstairs is usually brutally cold compared to outside. North facing, so when those north winds are howling, baby it's cold inside.
Some day I will live in a home that is more temperate upstairs and down.

Brutally cold? Are you serious? I wear short sleeve shirts year round here.

And to answer on of the OP ? Summerlin/Red Rock area is not a terrible commute to the airport. About 15-20 minutes from 215 at Charleston.

There has never been a day that was too cold (to me) to play golf in Vegas. There have been days when it was too windy or had the rare rainstorm, but, cold? No.

My mother-in-law lives in Tampa and Vegas is too cold for her after Halloween. Then she complains about the sweltering humidity there all summer. Vegas winters are nothing when you come from Chicago.

So would the spring and fall months in Vegas be similar to a Southern California winter ? Or close to it ?

Say like 50-80 no humidity nice breeze

A couple of things people haven't mentioned about the heat in the summer, well not so much heat as the dry air.

Since you are likely coming from a place of more humidity, you'll need to remember chapstick for your lips, moisturizer for your skin (most good sunblocks contain a moisturizer) and a saline spray for your nose. Many people experience nose bleeds when they first get here because they don't moisturize their nostrils.

We don't, as a rule, have "months" of fall and spring, mostly a few good weeks. We had a great spring this year, with temps in the 80s and 90s for most of it. You have to remember that with the low humidity, a 90-degree day is quite pleasant, an 80-degree day with a breeze can actually feel a bit cool on the skin.

I wouldn't wear short sleeves all winter. You aren't going to need your Columbia jacket, probably, but with temps in the 20s and 30s, you need a jacket for sure. (and gloves and maybe a hat if you're me)

I should have mentioned that I also wore only short sleeve shirts where we moved from.

Iowa.

Cold doesn't bother me much.

We live close to 215 and Lake Meade and temps are usually a degree or two (sometimes more) lower than the valley. Elevation is about 3000 feet. West side so we miss the late day sun.

Kind off off topic for weather but I didn't wanna make another thread how bad is the wildlife in Vegas ?

One of my biggest fears of moving there is stepping on / getting bit by stuff in my sleep that can kill me or walking outside to get the mail or do stuff around the house and get bit.

What is the frequency locals run into poisonous snakes , scorpions, spiders and lizards ?

What else lives in this climate ? Any mountain lions ?
