Let me offer a couple options you might not anticipate ...

For chicken, my go-to places are the Mexican markets, especially El Super. Their chicken is consistently fresher & more flavorful than far more expensive stuff from, say, Albertsons. An added bonus is it's a lot cheaper - great value. Today, for example, they had a one-day sale where their chicken leg quarters were 49 cents/lb. Watch their ads, they do this once in a while.

As for general stuff, Costco has great meats. They won't have the variety you might find at a mom-and-pop butcher shop; what they DO have is consistently high quality. Occasionally they'll have top quality prime cuts of beef hard to find anywhere else. A couple months ago they had a temporary markdown on their 90% lean/10% fat ground beef for $2.09/lb in a 10 pound chub (at their business center store on MLK). I bought one & broke it down into 2 pound sections; it's probably the best ground beef I've found in 15-20 years - very consistent meat with a deep red hue. I also bought 15 dozen medium eggs for $3.89 on the same trip (26 cents/dozen) - I go through a lot of eggs! (Usually I buy large or jumbo eggs but it was hard to pass up smaller eggs at only 26 cents/dozen. Now I use 4 eggs instead of 3 in an omelet. I can live with that.)

Don't overlook Costco for your essential meats - then head to a mom-and-pop butcher for the specialty items & hard to find stuff.

With that said, I have a couple questions. Has anyone found a place for good Boudin or Andouille sausage in this town? What about Haggis?
26 cents a dozen? WHAT? Man i'm kicking myself now that i chose to get a Sams membership over Costco .
I agree with El Super/Cardenas and Marianas all offering great selection at very affordable prices.

Ground beef is very expensive for what it is. I usually buy 40lbs at a time from Zaycon Foods. Still not cheap but much higher quality for the price.

I am a Costco person too. I think they have better products and they treat their employees like human beings.

The lowest prices for eggs that I've ever seen at Sams Club or Costco (at least, in the lady ten years) has been around $2.80 / 5 dozen. Generally closer to $7. Last year or so, the high point was closed to $11.

A little update, Today i headed over to Marketon located on Tropicana and i was amazed by how cheap these meats are.
I got 14lbs of Chicken Drumsticks for $6.99 and these are huge, There steaks however were somewhat overpriced as well as alot of their produce ie; Jalapenos (2 for $1.90) when i usually buy them at $0.99cent a pound. Nevertheless i will definitely visit the suggested places, Thanks so much!!

Always check the weekly flyers! Limes are a real bargain here and roma tomatoes. I think the best produce in Vegas is also at the Hispanic stores. One or another of these stores has a chicken deal every week!

An update on eggs: Last week I looked at the 5 dozen flat of large eggs at Sam's Club & it was just over $6.00, just over $1.20/dozen. At that price, I decided to wait even tho my egg supply was getting low.

A few days ago I went to the Costco Business Center on MLK & got 5 dozen grade AA large eggs for $2.59, $.518 (51.8 cents) per dozen according to their sign. When I say 'large' I'd say these approach the size of jumbo eggs elsewhere. Hickman's Family Farms is the brand they sell. This is what I've bought the most over the last couple years & I've been incredibly happy with the quality & consistency.

They also have consistently high quality meat; 80/20 ground beef was $2.09/lb in a 10-lb chub (pretty big) & 90/10 ground beef was $2.69/lb. I haven't seen prices approaching that recently for either ratio of ground beef & I certainly haven't seen similar quality (short of going to a high end butcher).

Sounds like a great deal sadly i no longer support Costco, I use to have a membership of theirs and one time i went in to shop not knowing that my membership was expired by ONE DAY i had about $200 worth of items in my cart - when i get to the register i'm informed my card had expired the previous day; No problem i figured they'd offer an extension prior to renewing it, guest pass or etc. NOPE! Not only was i treated rudely and as if i was a thief but they took my cart and had someone escorting me to customer service to renew my card which i ended up not doing.

Ever since that time i no longer support Costco despite how cheap they are, Nevertheless good find i will be going to the International Market/Asian Shops hopefully i can score on some cheap finds - I'll keep this thread updated.
