15 or 35 maybe? It was a fraction of my current 300Mbps down speed. I thought they said 25 though.

The speeds Centurylink offers you will depend on your distance from the Telco equipment. You have to put in your address to see what is available to you.

I saw Cox last week replacing the lines with fiber on the utility poles last week in my neighborhood.

Default Hosed By Cox

I signed a two year rate lock guarantee with COX exactly one year ago for internet and television service (no telephone) for $118/mo. I was told that the rate was guaranteed for two years. After one year they raised my bill to $138/mo. When I stopped by the store to complain, they said that the internet increased by $20 after 12 mo. I can't find that anywhere in the fine print. I'm looking for another provider as what they represented was disingenuous at best. Very bad customer satisfaction.

I used to work there, it is in the fine print. They should have told you it is a 20 jump after the first 12 months

Cox is pretty standard to lock you into a 2 year commitment but jump the price after 12 months. I see it disclosed in a lot of their marketing materials.

My problem with Cox has been mainly the pricing rather than the service. My rate has jumped by about $20 per month over the past year and a half - which amounts to about 40 percent.

Cox customer service is close to useless. If you have a wireless network in your home, your wireless router is automatically the cause of any service issue that you have. I once had a Cox tech support rep tell me that my cable modem had gone out, and that I needed to buy a new one. I did that, only to find out that Cox had a general service outage in my neighborhood that night, and that my modem was fine. Fortunately, the place where I bought it took the new one back for a full refund. If you do need to deal with them, expect to get nowhere with their first level support people. I also advise that you not buy equipment from them, because they charge out the tail for it. When my cable modem needed to be updated, I found a modem that outperforms the one that Cox was offering for about half the price.

Fortunately for me, I am relatively tech savvy and I don't have to call Cox very often. I just wish that there were a better alternative. Most of the other options in this area are DSL, and their transfer speeds are all over the place depending upon how far you are from one of the main junctions. The farther out you are, the slower your connection.
