LV is a good sized city but not quite major. It is getting ore compact here as indicated but some of the newer housing construction that resembles the row houses of the early 1900's. The last stretch of land that allows for growth within the valley is up by the northern beltway. Perhaps in the future growth will spill over by Sloan and the El Dorado valley of Boulder City.

SNWA sent out a flyer in the mail last week. What I recall:

Yearly Colorado River allocation for Nevada: 300,000 acre feet
Yearly allocation if emergency declared (Lake Mead below 1025 feet): 275,000 acre feet
Actual water Nevada took from Colorado River last year: 225,000 acre feet

Seems Nevada is better positioned to deal with emergency reductions in allocation than other Colorado River water users.

Las Vegas is rated among the top tourist destinations in the United States and the world. I would say that alone qualifies it as being a major city.

I tried, I really did, but resistance is futile.

Las Vegas is the largest city in the U.S. founded in the twentieth century. It is one of a kind in all the world. It is unique. You cannot compare Las Vegas to any other city because no other city compares to Las Vegas.

AFAIK, there's no Waffle House in NYC. So that's not a major city either
