Default Hi Crime Neighborhoods!

How bad are Neighborhood just east and west of the strip. We are moving to LV on 3/10 and need to find a place. I was just there 3 weeks ago and did some driving around for a week or so. I like the south strip, but its a little far away for public transportation. How is the area around UNLV? I heard even Maryland could be bad near the mall or towards the Barnes and Noble. My aunt lives in Green Valley and she has warned me, however coming from NY , how bad could it be? If we were to rent there we would still look for a nicer place in the 1000 dollar range for a 2 bedroom . Any advice?

Thanks

Peter

Stay clear of the quadrant between Paradise (W) and Maryland (E) and Desert Inn (N) and Flamingo (S). Everything else around the university is not exactly Mayberry but definitely livable. I also recommend the area on the NW corner of Sahara/Decatur for a good combination of price and convenience.

And from Sahara and Decatur you can go west and south for a long way...I call it the corridor. South of Sahara and west of Decatur. Gets too expensive way out. But in toward the start it is reasonable.

Wow, you guys are right on the money! Chest I drove through that area behind the strip that you call the quadrant earlier this month and the cops were pulling people over and the apartments just looked so run down. And this was in the middle of the afternoon. It kind of freaked me out, and that is why I began to consider south strip or GV. Thanks to you both. !

Yeah, this area is definitely strange. It's within spitting distance to some of the priciest commercial and residential real estate in town. I can't see how most of the apartment buildings in this quadrant won't be torn down and redeveloped into high end stuff withing the next 10-20 years.

The slumlords are going to make out like bandits and all the poor people are going to move into the vacated houses in suburbia. just a prediction
