Go to www.payscale.com for exact numbers. I've been told they do very well there.

My mother is an RN and they make pretty good money out here. She was a little unhappy with the salary though, so she went into case management above nursing.

When are you considering moving here?

Nurses can definitely make really good money out here, but it also depends on what setting you want to work in. Home care pays the most.

My wife is an RN here and she does pretty good. shes around 85k but shes also been at her position for 7 years. From what shes told me however they are doing more layoffs instead of hiring right now.

Currently a nurse in Vegas. About half the hospitals are trying to re negotiate contracts to pay cuts. Starting is facility dependent but around $25 hr with 1 year exeprience. You need to hit the 10 year mark for better money. Per Diem is available for experienced nurses that can hit high $30's to $40's. That comes with high nurse patient ratios and high work loads.

I have one year of experience and work in critical care. I had to sign a 2 year new grad contract and got several months of preceptorship and additional critical care classes. My hospital did have a layoff but no RNs were actually laid off , it only looked that way. They didn't fill a lot of new RN positions, cut down on support staff, and the few RNs who they had to lay off were given the opportunity to go to other positions in our affiliated hospitals so they weren't actually laid off. We did not get a pay cut, and got our usual raise. I like my facility, nightshift crew and dept. I can't complain.

In my hospital new grads on med surg make 25hr. I made 34 to start because I'm critical care and nights (thats with full benefits). They are not really hiring new grads right now. Alot of our own local new grads are having a hard time getting jobs. There's no relocation assistance for new grads. Experienced per diem RNs on my unit get around 45hr.

Hope this helps

I'm an RN with the state. We began absorbing monthly furloughs in July (roughly a 5% pay reduction). There is some talk of adding a day (which would sink me financially) if things don't improve. Some hospitals have closed units and laid off, many others are largely staffed with travelers.
