I have not tried it myself but hospitals typically inflate costs greatly to the consumer. I have heard a number of stories of people negotiating costs with the Doctor/hospital.

The monthly therapy I get bills initially at 25K. It gets settled at about 4k. I lie to everybody and claim the government is paying 300K a year to keep me going. Sounds much more impressive than a mere 48K.

Summerlin gives 30% discount for cash pay. Others offer a discount if you qualify and are below the poverty line...

i am actually finding humor in the bills....i love how the hospital bills the insurance company, 500k... and then settles for 150k ish.... but if you were a cash pay, it would be difficult to get it below 350k...

i got lectured today from urgent care on why i didn't go to emergency last night.. my blood pressure was extremely low...79/50.... i told them, i couldn't afford the copay. As i thought about it later, i should have gone anyway... i owe so much, what's a $1000 copay for emergency.

Yup when the problem gets to a certain size do the right thing. If it goes bad and you crash might as well crash big.

If you need wheels to get you in give me a call...I am available most of the time.

After running through spring between 2600 and 3000 there was a peak in June around 3200 SFRs. July dropped to 2800 followed by a current 30 day about 2800 in August (the current data is probably light by a 100 or so due to slow reporting of current data).

So there does not appear to be much motion. Flat pricing and flat volume.

So, what is that volume and what does it mean to a seller?

Those are sales for the 30 days ending on...The sales are excellent...though not as excellent as 3 months ago.

There is no such myth. Cash was 37% in 2010, 43% in 2011, 47% in 2012 and 48% in 2013. All numbers are for the percentage of SFR sales in the month of July.

The more striking number is that FHA/VA have gone from 37% in 2010 to 20% in 2013. Again SFR in the month of July.

This is driven by more than half the homes for sale specifying cash or conventional only compounded by the difficulties of getting a workable appraisal on those that will accept VA/FHA.

The real message is that this is a lousy market for the first time home buyer.
