Please don't start following me around forum to forum so you can try to refute everything I say. We will have to agree to disagree. I spent over 9 years in Vegas and didn't like it and don't think it's a place to raise kids. You're a realtor and it's your job to sell the city, so you have to look for something good in it and soften the blow on the bad things. Nothing is going to change this.
Is there someway that I can put someone on ignore on these boards so that I never see their posts? If so, please tell me how to do it!

Sorry. You will have to use facts. I know it is hard but that is how it is. No facts? Don't post.

I have on many occassions posted the facts, especially when it comes to the school rankings. Yet you come back and tell me that I'm not looking at the facts. The reality is that you see Las Vegas with rose colored glasses and are oblivious to all the concerns that others have about the city. Even with the facts presented to you, you turn the other cheek and refuse to read them.
I am done reading or responding to any of your posts. It seems like you just go around trying to refute anything someone says that's negative about Las Vegas. It's as if you can't possibly let someone else share their opinion, you are the star cheerleader for the city. Rah rah!

Moving to Vegas...
This is a great time to buy in Las Vegas. Many builders are offering one year free mortgage!
There's many advantages, low properties taxes and the convenience of 24 hr town, but kids here are pretty wild. We have a high suicide rate and also a very high divorce rate.
Be aware of the Realtors here...they are pretty desperate...they will harrass you to get your business...
Good luck!

Well you are absolutely correct that I cheer for Las Vegas. I live here and it is a nice place. I am also well aware of any number of flaws. It is a long way from being perfect. Then again so is every where else I have ever lived in a long life time.
If you are right I will be glad to agree. If you are not you are going to get a hard time. Want to knock Las Vegas? Do your homework. I have a few thousand hours discovering what is true and what is not. Do the same and we may have interesting discussions about fine points. But the basic message is clear. Vegas is simply another SW city...neither better nor worse than the others as far as I can tell. .

OK - Just wiggled back into my cheerleader costume. Cite a source for your views...let's see... wild kids? High suicide rate? Very high divorce rate? Harrassing Realtors?
Go for it. Love facts. Hate biased opinions.

i'v only been here for 16 months, and i'm really starting to like it now. I have 3 children all in school. The teachers i have met are Great people, and the christmas program i just attended for my daughter(elementary school) was the best i've ever been to. The kids here at school all dress really nice too. While driving your car at night you can see the lights across the valley, it is one of my favorites.(not just of the strip, of the neighborhoods too)

Las Vegas is similar to to most other large metropolitan areas. There are problems in Vegas but it's not all gloom and doom either. Las Vegas isn't the best place in the world to raise kids but who can afford to live in North Platte for 20 yrs? Kids can get into trouble anywhere. Not just Las Vegas.
There is a lot of gambling and sex. It's advertised everywhere. But those same things are available in Detroit and even North Platte. And LA etc etc. Las Vegas is just more open about it. Most locals seldom visit the strip and if they go to a casino, it's most likely to eat. Traffic on the strip is horrendous and most people avoid it. Too many awestruck tourists.
People in Vegas do the same things everyone else does. They go to work, school, church, and the grocery store. Some even go to the library. Vegas does have more than it's fair share of homeless people. The majority of them are downtown in the area close to the bus station. If I was homeless, I would rather live in Vegas than North Platte too. Lots of jobs and good weather!
Housing will eat up a lot of money. The RE market is fueled by California and the fact that people want to live in Vegas more than North Platte. The Vegas job market alone does not justify the RE prices. Many jobs pay less than you are probably thinking. Some prices have dropped or moderated. Particularly on new homes. Be sure you know what you are getting into before you buy. Some homeowners assoc are very expensive and there can be special fees(LID and SID) associated with buying a new home.

Lilia - I completely agree with some of your post. You are right on about the high suicide rate, divorce rate and out of control kids. And so dead on accurate about the desperate for sales realtors! Even on these message boards there are realtors that try to paint great pictures to encourage sales.
P.S. You can do a search for suicide rates by state on google and get some statistics, here's one place suicidology.org/associations/1045/files/2003statedatapgc.pdf
You can also get divorce rate statistics by searching by state. Even infoplease.com offers them.

don't know how everyone moves to Vegas thinking they will save money imo...
What you save on Rent you will lose big time on car insurance and health insurance if you are moving from California...
