my neighbor gets his yard cleaned every two weeks or every month i'm not exactly sure, but the yard is mostly dirt

when the wind is strong, like it is today, lots of the dust and crap from the trees blows over into my yard and into my pool. he also has about 5 dogs, so lots of the pet hair ends up in the pool filter

is it reasonable for me to complain to him, i don't want to sound like a nag. it is really annoying. what is the legality of all this also?

You have all the rights to complain.

Reasonable, yes, but you also don't want to make an enemy of the person next door. I think I would just ask him to talk to his yard service about trying to avoid blowing stuff into your yard. Just a friendly conversation, nothing confrontational. That may be all it takes.

This is a problem that will never be fixed. It's so dusty and windy here that I can guarantee some of the crap that gets blown into your yard/pool came from a lot further away than next door! At my house, it's all about underwear. I don't spend my free time spying on my neighbors but I think I am the only person in my little area who dries clothes outside. And yet, every time we have a couple windy days, there is underwear in my yard/pool. NOT my underwear. Some of it is nice and some of it is ratty. I pick them up with a rake and throw them away. And it's always panties and shorts. Nothing else.

So I have to conclude if underwear blows in regularly from parts unknown, it's safe to assume literally tons of smaller stuff does too!

On a weekly basis I have a "battle of the patio" with the landscapers. I sweep the patio and they blow all the leaves and dirt back on to it with a leaf blower. I don't complain about it except to people online jokingly. I actually really like our landscapers and admire their hard work in keeping the grounds beautiful.

How good is your relationship with them that they'll take your complaints? When it's the wind blowing things in your yard that's just part of being neighbors. Now if his tree is hanging over your fence that's entirely different and you have every legal right to trim your side of the tree, but it's neighborly of you to inform them first. You can do whatever you want to your side to prevent and fix the issue and the issue may just fall back on you to deal with it. Like planting a wall of privacy trees/shubs to block the incoming debris from the neighbors yard.

Those guys are very serious about their leaf blowers. It seems like only the "Big Kahuna" of the crew is allowed to strap on the leaf blower.

I am not sure there is a good solution. My problem is my gardener. And my yard has no open dirt. It is either grass or rock/crushed stone. But We generally have the master bath shower open to the outside in the spring and fall. Keeps it dry and stuff from growing. After the blow we have a 16th of an inch of junk on the window ledge. Obvious as it is a white tile.

So the problem is that in our desert climate everything is coated with a layer of dust the first time the wind blows. And when the blower hits it is all again air born.

We could I suppose go back to raking all the junk up. But that probably doubles the time to do my yard.

Maybe better to shut up the house...

I would hopefully assume he's a nice, reasonable person. He probably simply doesn't know. A friendly conversation that isn't confrontational could go a long way. Don't approach it like a fight, or expecting a big incident, just be friendly and bring it up to him. He probably would at least help make the situation a bit better, if given the chance.

Why anyone would use a leaf blower in Vegas, though, I have no clue. I mean I'm going to Vegas to avoid freakin' leaf blowing. Grr.

You have a bit of an education coming. My place yields around 10 55 gallon bags of stuff every two weeks. Half or more is collected by blowing. A couple of bags of grass but the rest is junk generated by the plants or trees. Three or four Mesquites can deliver repetitive gunk almost forever. And if it is time and we cut stuff back that can be another 10 or 12 bundles to go with thw bags. And a couple of bags simply blows in from elsewhere...particularly when the wind is up.

I remember a time when there were no leaf blowers. The gardener or owner actually would use a rake and broom. It really is not that hard to do..........just takes alittle more time. I miss those days!!!
