I'm surprised no one has mentioned private schools as an alternative. The Meadows School for example.

Most people don't mention it because it's expensive. Alexander Dawson is an option as well.

Do you know how much that costs? They have a guard gated entrence. My aunt lives across the street from that campus.

The magnets provide a top notch education, without the 30k price tag.

The magnet application is a cinch to fill out. We put Johnson as my daughter's first choice which is also the school she is zoned for, and then picked two other programs she was interested in. Of course, she got an acceptance letter for the only school that was far away with no transportation. I wound up just transferring her to Becker. Too bad I can't get her into Rogich.

It's all about the alternatives. Privates are expensive because (a) parents are willing to pay, and (b) it can be worth it for some families. In particular, people from out-of-state are frequently used to paying high tuitions for private school.

Have you tried getting a zone variance? There's plenty of kids at top middle schools that don't live in the zone.

Yes that is why she is at Becker, not Johnson. Rogich had zero open seats. My daughter has to be at a school in driving distance because my husband and I have to have someone else pick her up. Becker isn't the best but it is far better than Johnson and the next best public school in the area. I really did not want her to attend Johnson.
