UPDATE: Video shows fight that led to stabbing at Thurman White Middle School - KTNV.com Las Vegas

A 13-year old knows she's going to get jumped at school and asks a family member 15-year old to walk her to school for "protection".

The 15-year old obliges and confronts the "bully", who then pulls out a knife and stabs her repeatedly. The school goes on lock down the rest of the day.

There's a lot of head-scratching information in the article that puts context to the situation. Apparently the 15-year old is the niece of the 13-year old.

Thurman White used to be one of the better middle schools in the area, but rezoning increased their Free/Reduced Lunch population from 28% to 62%, and their test scores dropped significantly.

Which parents?

It appears that the 16y/o family member confronted the 12y/o bully. The bully then used a knife.

Looks all parties involved are to blame.

Going to assume "for protection" meant help me fight these girls. Unfortunate situation all around.

EDIT: just noticed you had protection in quotes too. Guess we're on the same page here.

For better or worse, the event tends to affirm certain stereotypes.

When I was 16 or so there was a confrontation in front of the local drug store and pool hall. Another kid got out of a car and called me out and then pulled out a bicycle chain. Guess who was standing behind him drinking a glass bottle coke? My 14 month younger brother. Guess what happened next?

And then there was a monumental battle. My brother and I, knowing we would be in deep trouble if our parents found us arrested, beat our way out of their and down the alleys and out of there. The brawl actually made the newspaper though none of the actual principals were ever identified .

The kid who wore the coke bottle survived with a night in the hospital. Three of them later made a pass at me near home. Idiots got into a mile long foot race and I was into track. Finally got far enough ahead I let the only reasonable fast kid catch up. As he reached for me I turned suddenly and caught the SOB full on in the face. Then hit him a couple of times on the way down.

Then split. Right after that I decided to move back to NYC.

Did I do wrong? Did my brother? So do you do what you need to?

And note we were much better situated than most...Both of our parents were attorneys.

14 months seems pretty young to be drinking coke from a glass bottle.

14 months younger....I believe he was 15 years old as it was summer time. He was also considered a superb specimen by all the ladies...painful to have a younger brother who is a lot prettier than you.. And he could beat me at chess. Considered fratricide. But we grew out of it.
