I might not be understanding the terms correctly, like social liberalism vs social conservative.. its kind of confusing...

Then you have the mormons from Utah which I assume, unless they are defecting, don't even partake in that part of the vegas culture.... but they are surrounded by it if they live in Vegas, any many mormons live in rural Nevada, where there are brothels......which if you think about it, is kind of strange place for mormons to be, even if they did have a part in the history of vegas..... ya know?
I wouldn't go that far! Nothing beats SF and Berkley... not even Vegas. Anyone see any hippies in Vegas?

and as for liberal or conservative, if you have to put a name to it, i'll stick w/ it is more libertarian (like i said previously, "do what you want, but don't tell me what to do")

rural NV seems like an ideal place for mormons to be, considering their pioneering history. i'd lay money on the fact that there are more mormon 'settlement/homesteads' than brothel by a long shot. its not like you go into the country and there are brothels all over.....
To clarify, prostitution is legal in the state of Nevada, except for two counties. Clark County and Washoe County. Vegas is in Clark County, Reno is in Washoe County. So you don't see actual brothels in Vegas or Reno... but of course, the sex industry is alive and kickin in Las Vegas, as you all know. But technically, it is not a legal regulated industry like the rest of NV.....

True.... I just meant I see a slight overlap when I mentioned liberal in some aspects, such as acceptance of illegal immagrants....

but there is definitely no comparison between Vegas and SF/Berkley.....there are a few hippies in Vegas, but not many at all compared to SF/Berkley

Btw, I lived in San Francisco, from 97 to 99, Cathedral Hill area, Franklin and Geary..... nice....

The "South" is made up of the former Confederate States and ends somewhere before you get to West Texas, where the southwest begins.

Las Vegas has had a very strong influence from southern California because of the invasion from there in the 80's and 90's. But, the libertarian attitude goes back to the early days before statehood when Nevada was the epitome of the wild, wild west, complete with shootouts in the streets, and rustlers getting hanged from the nearest tree. Check out the history of Pioche sometime.

And, of course Las Vegas is in the southwest; what part of "Desert Southwest" don't people understand? The southern tip of Nevada, also in Clark County, comes relatively close to Mexico, and was in the beginning a part of Arizona which was once a part of New Mexico Territory. But Nevada is a very, very large (the 7th largest) state, and at 483 miles long and 320 miles wide, it reaches almost into the Pacific Northwest. Nevada was a part of the Utah Territory at first and was mostly settled by Mormons sent out from Salt Lake City. Genoa, a Mormon community near Carson City, was the first community, originally called Mormon Station. It is nearly in California.

Nevada State Library and Archives - Nevada Facts

The first people of European ancestry in Las Vegas were a group of Mormons sent here by Brigham Young. Things were very harsh for them, and they couldn't get along with each other, so they left, but later returned. Most of the farming communities in Nevada were settled by Mormons, and the mining communities were settled mostly by easterners looking for a quick buck. Not much has changed in either category.

Nevada is not the only state that allows prostitution. Rhode Island is the other one. The eleven counties that allow it are such vast areas with almost no population that they need the taxes from it to survive. Right or wrong, it would exist anyway as it does everywhere in the world, so regulation seems to make it safer for everyone concerned.

I haven't checked to see if they have all the details right, but here is what they say on Wikipedia: Under Nevada state law, any county with a population of less than 400,000 is allowed to license brothels if it so chooses[1]. As of 2007, Clark County (which contains Las Vegas) and Washoe County (which contains Reno) are the only counties with population above 400,000.[2] Incorporated towns and cities in counties that allow prostitution may regulate the trade further or prohibit it altogether.

As of July 2004, brothels are illegal under county or municipal law in Carson City (which encompasses the entire county), Douglas County, and Lincoln County. Eureka County neither permits nor prohibits licensed brothels and does not have any. The other 11 counties permit licensed brothels in certain specified areas or cities.[3]

Hello Everyone, sorry it took so long to add comments but i've been away from my computer for a few days. Anyway, Vegas not having sweet tea will NOT stop me from moving there. I was just being silly. I grew up in the military and we only traveled to Germany back to Georgia and back again. Vegas is the first city i've been to on the west coast. I really enjoyed myself there. I know there is more to Vegas than the strip. I've been in Atlanta long enough. I am ready for a new scenery. When and if i ever move from the south i sure will miss the sweet tea. Adding sugar to the tea is so not same. Come visit the McDonalds in the south or any other restaurant and you will experience the difference.

Maybe i should open up a sweet tea hut in Vegas. I wonder how well i will do?

Why not just make it at home? I know my aunt use to make it with corn syrup and let the tea sit in the sun for a day and it was the best tea i've ever had. I had sweet tea in the south before, and sometimes its just to darn sweet! I like it semi sweet if you know what I mean. When you make it at home, you can actually control that or just put more ice!

A sweet tea joint that sells other southern comforts might do pretty good if there is enough demand??

i went to Memphis BBQ last night... How they are ranked the best ribs is beyond me but i actually went there for the Sweet Tea which is very good.. i'd give it a 7 out of 10...They also had a Apple Sweet Tea which i thought was excellent... 9 out of 10... i bought a 1 gallon jug (6.99 refills 4.99) and brought it home.. to make it a 10 out of 10 (in my opinion, of course), i kicked it up a notch, added about 10 ounces of sugar.. now thats some sweet tea... whooowee... call the dentist!

Lucille's BBQ in The District (next to Green Valley Ranch) serves some really good sweet tea....

There are a lot of places now serving it...don't know how it all matches up to the "real" thing you can get down South, but what I've had so far here in town has been quite yummy!

Opening a sweet tea place ATLien29, (and serve the tea with warm Southern buttermilk biscuits)....that's a really good idea!
