So I was driving north on U.S. Route 95 about 20 miles north of Searchlight. The music I was listening to (via Bluetooth from my iPhone) faded out and six or seven loud jarring tones sounded. Then the music came back on.

It occurred to me later that might have been a flash flood warning to all the cellphones in the area, but the FEMA page says that Wireless Emergency Alerts are sent out as texts. And I didn't get any new texts.

Maybe this warning wasn't sent out by FEMA? Any clues?

I get those alerts on my phone from time to time but they also say what the warning is for. I never really looked to see who sends them but I doubt it's FEMA. I have the Accuweather app and they probably work with the National Weather Service to get out the alerts.

Apparently it's the same tones that are used for Amber Alerts. Without additional information sent, though, it doesn't seem at all useful.

Oh well.

Thanks for the additional information. In poking around in Settings > Notifications on my iPhone, I note that under Government Alerts, both AMBER Alerts and Emergency Alerts are enabled.

I've only had this phone a short while and never noticed that.
