Couldn't find a better forum to post this question. I'm getting a crap table built and was asked if I wanted a "speed cloth" for the layout. I was told many casinos are switching from felt to speed cloth since speed cloth is more durable. A friend of mine said speed cloth is used on poker tables. I'm not a poker player, so my question is would speed cloth be better than felt on a crap table? There will be some type of padding under the layouts.

I think what they're talking about is a poly knit fabric which may be "speed cloth". I believe most casinos have moved to these. When I had my table built in 2015 I opted for felt, have no regrets; my personal table doesn't see near the use a casino table gets. I have no deterioration of my felt at all.

When I replace (probably several years) I'll more than likely go with felt again. Hope that helps.

Speaking as a poker dealer, I hate that speed cloth, but it is durable.

^^^ agreed
I have dealt on some very nice suede type tables also!

A LOT depends on how much wear and tear you expect, a lot like a pool table.
