I am looking for a new ISP in Las Vegas. I have been with Cox, off and on, for about 10 years, and their service is unreliable and very slow. What are my other options? I have tried Satellite before and it was horrible. Has anyone had any good experiences with their ISP?. I wish we could get Time-Warner or Google fiber here.

Your other options are to search the forums for the 10,000 threads on this

Failing that, start your own internet company because realistically, Cox is the only player in town

Well, there's Cox and then there's you threaten Cox with going with Century Link to get a better rate, but staying with Cox.

One has to think of Las Vegas, the whole Metro area as a small "Company" town. After all, that is what it is and most businesses are monopoly - like COX. Or if you own a Mercedes Benz, Fletcher Jones with their two dealerships in the Valley. There is really no variety here but one knows that before moving here. It is a company town run with municipal governments working for the large casino over lords.

Right on, truly the worst. The entire town is poorly wired and well behind on bandwidth speeds. Never have I experienced such signal degradation and constant problems with cable as I have had here.

Back East it's no different, and in my opinion much worse. You have the same players with the addition of Time Warner which in my opinion is the worst of the lot, if you have never witnessed their dismal customer service, consider yourself blessed. Compounding the situation in many other areas of the US are weather events which may change the quality of your service indefinitely. Poor management and inexperienced technicians can leave you without internet forever. I will spare all of you my experiences in NY, but based on my experience, Cox looks better than Time Warner or Dish.
I too wish we had more to choose from than the lesser evil, however, man it could be worse, Time Warner could never get my high speed to work more than 3 days at a time and this lasted for 15 years. They were the only option in my area and let many fall thru the cracks

I'm surprised Verizon doesn't go I there with Fios. They're doing it in NY, and slugging it out with Cablevision on Charter.

My experience with Cox is that they're pretty good at fixing problems on their side. You can start out by giving your modem's MAC address to a tech on the NV subforum of the Cox forum on dslreports.com, so they can start monitoring it. If they can't recognize and resolve the problem from the logs, they'll tell you to call and ask for a truck roll, referencing the already in-place monitoring.

My problem was this mysterious drop for about an hour around the same time of every day (like a piece of equipment turning on every day at the same time and causing interference). We never did figure out the cause, but replacing every piece of coax from the street to the cable modem, and the cable modem itself fixed it. Plus the tech who came out gave me his cell # in case anything ever went wrong again, which hasn't happened.

"Unreliable and slow" are problems Cox should be able to fix, unless the problems aren't on their end (they often aren't).
