My husband fainted and fell to the marble floor upon leaving the Grand Tasting in April of this year. We left early because it was cold and windy. ( Caesers was great and relieved that we were not staying there. lol People were taking pictures of my husband bleeding on the floor. Security was great and surrounded him for privacy. ) He was taken to Spring Valley because he had a head injury. He did since his head was bleeding. His main injury was multple fractured ribs which caused him pain when he tried to breathe. EMS dropped husband off at the ER. I was immediately told by an employee to leave the ER. I told her I would be happy to do so if I knew where to go. She just pointed to a sign. Such a rude person. I wasn't even exiled one minute before I was asked to return because my husband is hearing impaired. (Tried to tell them before they threw my out.) There was only one ER doctor on duty that night. What a sweetheart. He was so overworked but took great care of my husband. The nursing aides that move my husband from the ER to Observation were great but it was off putting to hear them talk about going to party when they got off the morning. The morning nurse that took over was an absolute nightmare. Rude beyond belief. She documented that my husband was transferred from a nursing home. (Patient mix up). His medical record is screwed up saying he is non verbal and not able to walk. Every single nurse and doctor that saw my husband signed off on that assessment even though he could talk and walk. WTH?

I'm a retired RN who worked 42 years in Indiana and Massachusetts, most of that was Infection Control Nurse and Clinical Applications Coordinator, so you can see I have worked with medical staff a long time. I retired to Arizona, where healthcare was a huge step down, and moved to Nevada two years later where it is worse than I ever imagined it could be! Been here 17 years. My wife is in good health and sees her female Doctor and GP just the 1-2 times a year and gets along OK with that. I have several health issues and actually need a good Doctor. I have researched it very well and have tried several. For whatever reason Las Vegas has perhaps 2% of it's Doctors that are at best, OK and the rest not so much. I can say however, 100% of them surround themselves with the absolutely WORST staff! I just can't figure out how they could ALL be so TERRIBLE, but they ARE! If you can actually get to a good Doctor and he/she prescribes properly, their idiot staff screws it up (multiple times), they are almost exclusively rude, put you on hold for very long waits, then never call back, etc. As a Nurse I find them all totally useless! Why have to take their abuse just to MAYBE see the Doctor for a couple of minutes? Care in Massachusetts and Indiana is 1000% better and I miss it a LOT! My latest was THEY scheduled me in the same day to squeeze my leg to reduce edema and then to see their Nurse Practitioner. After they squeezed my leg they said I wasn't allowed to see the NP and blamed my Federal BC/BS insurance who refuses to let me have two things done the same day. WTF? I called BC and they said it wasn't their rule, so I asked the Doctor's office and then they said it was their Doctor's policy. I then wanted to switch from my current NP to the one in this Doctor's office. They set up two appointments for me with her and today when I finally got to see her, the Doctor told her she could not be my Primary Care because one of my other Specialists (the guy who trims my toenails) referred me to him. Again WTF? I've got 5 days insulin to last me the 10 days until my next appointment I have with the NP I want to fire. Now I can't fire her because the Doctor won't let his NP take me as a patient and I can't get an extra vial of insulin if the old NP won't call it in. So I called and the staff refused to even pass her a note about it and I have to try again tomorrow. If any of this sounds good to any of you let me assure you the healthcare in Vegas simply SUCKS!

^^^ go to your pharmacy about the insulin with when you will be seeing the doctor. If you have a long relationship with your pharm, they will front you the insulin you need. Or will call your doctor for an RX.

Gotta say I moved here 17 years ago and was younger (43) and rarely went to the doctor. Well my insides have started to have issues. So to be fair I don't have much comparison with the old location. Except when hurting my ankle in step class and going to the ER, the doctor told me I had bone cancer in my leg. And to go see an ortho.

Thank God, 1 year before I bought insurance, had coverage when I was working but had gone out on my own in consulting had been doing with out for 5 years. Figured if something happened to me, it'd be a car or home accident which would be covered with my medical coverage I bought on those.

So I called an ortho, I couldn't get in for 3 months, I started crying and the receptionist got me in the next week. Actually had come to peace with it, thinking of people in the news with one leg and did fine. If they can do it, so can i.

So I go to the ortho, he takes x-rays,comes back and says I really hate it when ER doctors try to diagnose something they know nothing about. I didn't have cancer, I had calcium areas from a childhood of being in sports.

We've been here 17 years, if we run across a bad doctor, we go find someone else. I think all my doctor now are excellent. One I got lucky right out of the gate and have been with him 17 years.
I do have one with semi crappy staff. But my contact with them is minimal. The doctor is outstanding and because of her at 60, I feel 30. She got me on much needed hormones, which previous doctors were ignoring my blood work.

Pommysmommy - I hope your husband is well. People taking his picture in that condition, I would of went all Alex Baldwin on them. Sorry you had a such bad experience. My husband had a deadly experience (huge sub-dermal hemotoma) and he ended up in Southern Hills. He had passed out too. The doctor saved his life. When my husband thanked the doctor for saving his life, I started crying. Had blocked out how serious his situation was.

I've been here 45 years, and only about 10% of the Dr's I've seen would I go back to. Don't forget the Dr works for you.

I buy insulin all the time without a prescription at Costco or Sam’s Club or the corner pharmacy. It’s for my diabetic cat. It is not feline-specific insulin. It is insulin manufactured for human beings. Novolin 70/30.

There is just no incentive for having reasonable health care standards in this region of the country. I once had an ER nurse eating fritos and breathig the food into my face while she was taking my blood. Then the ER doc accused me of being high on heroin. Disgusting, subpar health care lives here so better get used to it.

I like my doctors. Front office/billing staff-they are another story. Some of them seem to have a brain the size of a grain of sand.

You got off easy. I had a colonoscopy done by a murdering Dr here, was potentially infected with hep C, or HIV, had a colon resection done by this murderer, and all the while, no cancer was found. It's not often I cheer at someone's death, but many celebrated when murdering Desai died.
