Yes, Juarez is a major point of entry for drugs, much more so than Tujuana. As I walked from Juarez into El Paso many times, I saw the lax inspections at the border, and how the American news wants us to think, "all the bad is Felipe Calderon's fault, and all of Mexico is very dangerous." Need I say, Mexico has a lot of oil, with the US as a major customer, the US won't intervene anytime soon. When I wanted to walk into Mexico, I did without any drama. I was in Juarez on a regular basis, and I lived in Chihuahua before El Paso.

¡Bastante! This forum is about crime in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; not Mexico's drug wars.

Mexicans, Mexican-Americans. Am I in any great danger? No!

Intelligent travelers can see right those statistics. I've been doing that for years, along with any frightening U.S. Consular's reports.

Americans don't stop to think that any future traveler from a foreign country, to any of our cities, may very well look at crime statistics before considering at trip here. If they were to spend even an hour on LV Metro's Crime View section, and notice the crimes committed around the Strip/Fremont St. every week, how many would think twice before coming here?
You need to read the news. Innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire are being murdered. The drug cartels govern Mexico at this time. Google innocent bystander murders in Juarez Mexico. Toursim is non existant in Juarez at this time. I am not sure what part of that you just don't grasp.

Lighten up; I lived there, and visited Juarez every other day when I was there (I just left there 6 months ago). Some in El Paso own businesses in Juarez and must walk across the bridge on a daily basis. Honestly, I think this is better understood when one is immersed in the Juarez/El Paso culture..........

When was the last time you visited Juarez? Lighten up? It doesn't bother you that an infant in a stroller was struck by a bullet on the bridge into El Paso? Everyone who is able has moved to El Paso. The cartels are in control and a doctor who lived there and moved to El Paso says that many of the military are being paid on the side by the drug cartels. No one is immersed in the culture of murder.

Pommy,

I am just curious, isn't El Paso being flooded with illegals? I do not know this to be true, I am only asking since it is a border city?

thanks

No more so than other border cities. I think we need to give asylum to Juarez residents temporarily until there is a true goverment of Mexico.

What is currently going on in Mexico breaks my heart. I get a lot of heat on the Arizona forum since I compassion for the illegals and I absolutely HATE Sherrif Joe Arpaio.

I love Joe Arpaio. He enforces the law. That is important. The situation between El Paso and Juarez is entirely different. Illegals broke into my friends' home in the Paradise Valley neighborhood of Phoenix while she and her husband and neighbors were at work.

ALL: This is A Las Vegas forum, I hope the El Paso poster understands (probably not).

Let's stay on topic. Las Vegas is a much better city in which to find a glimmer of hope in spite of the violence. There are quite a few US cities with high rates of violence, most of us avoid them. It is sad, our police departments are so overwhelmed with trying to quell this issue. Odd that LV has a high crime rate with roughly 9% of the population at or below the poverty line. Whereas El Paso being a whole lot safer, has over 20% of the populace at or below th poverty line. Wanna be safe, and not bored? Live in a wealthy suburb with easy access to the city, like Woodside, CA, or Greece, NY (not wealthy, but much cheaper than Woodside).

Are you a travel agent? My posts were a direct response to another poster. Are you the new sheriff in town?
