Someone with local knowledge please tell me this is an error on the LVPD website.

I did a map search for zip 89084 which showed 3 crimes in the last 60 days.
Then I searched zip 89131 (adjacent to 89084) and it had 277 crimes in the last 60 days.

I did a sex offenders search State of Nevada Sexual Offenders Search Page for 89131 and was shocked at how many live in that zip. I was under the impression that was a good area based on school scores but now I've scratched that off of my potential neighborhoods list.

The crimeview map is metro...which is the City of Las Vegas and unicorporated Clark County. 89084 is in North Las Vegas. North Las Vegas and Henderson are not covered by Crimeview.

You can also try my site on crime which shows relative crime by zip code...

Crime in Las Vegas

Sex offenders generally live where there is inexpensive rental housing. You will find them in any such area. In 89131 they will cluster at the southern end. 89131 is not bad and the north is pretty good. Want to see bad try 89106 or 89102

Just because a sex offender lives in a certain zip code doesn't mean they can't
commit a crime in another zip code.

I agree but I do think a higher concentration of sex offenders in a zip code is a reflection of that area.

As a potential home buyer, I would see this as negative. A top priority is to keep my family safe. Second, I would consider the future ability to resell a home; therefore, I would want to minimize negatives such as living nearby a sex offender.

I agree 100%, I just hate to see people that get a false sense of
security because they live in a low crime area. Many criminals target
these areas for that very reason.

Nothing wrong with that...but a zip code is too broad an area for effect on property values. 89102 will have a very high sex offender level and also some of the most expensive properties in the Valley. The zip sex offender count will not bother the value of the expensive homes nor make them dangerous.

A couple of blocks should be the area of concern...and then look at the particulars. An 80 year old with a rape convictions 35 years ago is probably not an issue.

I use to live in a bad area in CA. I never had a problem with any kind of crime but I saw drug dealing, prostitution and visible gang activity. My friend lived in the "good" part of this city and this is where my car was stolen right in front of his house. They found the car later in my part of town. I always thought that smart criminals wouldn't steal from their "Hood" but from somewhere that is more affluent.
