I will admit to and rescind my own personal opinions on whatever opinions I interjected in my posts. I was just so happy to see someone finally take me up on the suggestions of forming a compilation of information that I got overzealous in trying to contribute. Seeing the same topics rehashed drove me away from my favorite LV website.
On the insurance tip, I cannot find the npr interview about NV having the highest accident rate but I can confirm our #1 status in car theft (broken link). While LV does not have the highest insurance in the US, we are definitely up there.
As for my comments on kids out here, I'm sorry to those that took offense. I look at it in terms of education, medical care, and children's available activities and formed my opinion from what I've read here and what I've experienced so far. I believe that's been covered many times here in different threads so there's enough info out there to form your own opinions.
I think there's still a wealth of information out there to still be contributed by our board vets and would love to see more added to the discussion. Once everything is edited and put together, there could be a very valuable thread of information that can be stickied for potential newcomers.

A lot of the dancers don't live in Las Vegas, either. I see them at the airport early on Monday mornings, heading back to various cities - many to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Just another imported product for Las Vegas...

I am curious as to how you would know they are dancers? Surely they don't fly in their costumes. Also, since most of the shows run everyday of the week, why would they leave town after the weekend? I know several cirque dancers and I can assure you they call Las Vegas their home.

I too, know several Cirque performers who live here, and far as heard, a lot of them DO live here.
I don't understand why someone would settle for Turnberry..never liked the location of the place. Bad part of the Strip and overpriced, not convenient to anything BUT the Strip. But I guess that was the idea. In my opinion, anywhere near the Strip corridor is NOT desirable.
Now if he was talking about the Queensridge Towers...oh yes...lovely indeed and a beautiful area to boot, with Boca Park shopping, restaurants and the golf course right across the street on Rampart! They are beautiful to look at, too!

I do know what he means. I used to do the commute a lot. Amazing what leaves on those airplanes.
But only some are dancers...and those of a speciaized sort. Many are in the companionship business.
Actually even the vast majority of "exotic" dancers make Las Vegas home. Far as I know all the show girls and ensemble dancers are local.

"Dancers" doesn't mean "Cirque dancers" - it means "Spearmint Rhino dancers". And they often work in multiple cities - I met one who works in New York and Las Vegas and has houses in Manhattan and the San Francisco area.
As far as identifying them, it's pretty obvious even aside from the silicone. They dress the way an exotic dancer trying to dress like a business woman would: skirt a little too short, cleavage a little too visible.
Come to the airport at 6:00 am on a Monday - you'll see quite a few of them.

I have made a note to myself never to wear short skirts and b00by tops. I'd hate to be mistaken for an exotic dancer. Thanks so much for the tip.

Hey if you got it flaunt it. It is Vegas after all. A very nice Lady in the local government is a prototype. She is a wonderful resource but busting out all over all the time.
It worked fine for me once I learned to keep my eyeballs from bugging out.

I came here from NY 2 years ago and agree that car insurance here is about $400 per year less than what I was paying there. HOWEVER car registration is a bit overwhelming, especially on a new car.

Cox is the local cable provider. They provide phone and internet as well.
Correction:
Cox is the local cable monopoly that will suck you dry over the years. They have increased my bill gradually by $15 monthly since I started it with them 2 years ago. Check the packages they offer carefully. Also check about their monthly assurance fee. If you don't take it they can pop you for $40 every time they roll someome out to you house for repair, even if it's with their equipment.
