There are more than 500 commercial airports in the US owned by state and local governments. Most, including McCarran, could be self-funded.
Do you support having McCarran privatized...or should we leave well-enough alone?

Privatize = Sell off. It depends how much someone is willing to pay for it. Of course there would have to be a covenant in the sale that the buyer would have to maintain it as an operating commercial airport.

But what's that got to do with the price of tea in China? Government should not be in business.
Especially one that the private sector could run more efficiently (and profitably).

As for the price, I suggest a dollar.

I know there are privately owned airports, especially smaller ones. How many big international airports are private, and were actually built that way? I don't think many, if any.

I believe McCarran is a profitable venture that fully covers its own cost. That is the US custom. Biggest airport privately owned appears to be Branson MO. So everything of size is government owned.

The Airport Authority gets involved in things that might be difficult for a private company...taking property by eminent domain and restricting the use of property in noise impact zones.

It seems to work pretty well...so why change it? What would be gain other than philosophical benefit?

Particularly troublesome as it is a practical monopoly and therefore capable of practices that would require tight regulation and a government structure to control it.

That would be a potential disaster for Las Vegas. Airports let plenty of operations go to private operators, but think about what could happen in this case. The interests of the town are to have lots of planes coming from everywhere but what if a private operator figures out I can drastically raise rates on airlines and make more money? Some airlines would respond by cutting back on flights and the lifeblood of the tourism industry suffers. Airport operator could maximize its profit but it wouldn't maximize the revenue of the city's main industry. Complete mess ensues. Bid out contracts to the retail and food all you want, but that strategic role of insuring max visitor flow is the most important thing the city and county can do.

Last 2 posts ^^^ right on.

Oh the disasters I can think of if it should be privatized would kill Las Vegas as it is.

Its been shown repeatedly private sector can not effectively, or profitably or with ethics run many businesses. That list is huge.

Bailouts, bailouts, bailouts. All at tax payers expense. Short memory much.
