KD, mine show a bit of that dry rot three months after I buy them in the summer. I usually drive on them until I hit a stray nail ( new construction in the area ) and then replace with warranty, until the tread wears down. Keep a spare in your trunk, and a can of " fix-a-flat" for emergencies. A blowout is less likely than a slow leak.

MIne did too. But was told by Lexus, they were OK. It happens here.

Said watch and worry about the tread, not hairline cracks.

Been here 17+years, never had a flat or blow out.

I would go through Discount Tire, they have a promo on right now offering a prepaid visa rebate card. They are pretty good about matching prices too. Costco and Sams also run lots of promos.

I'm running General G-Max and they are probably one of the best budget tires. Not sure if this advice is still good, but avoid any tire made in China. Japan (and possibly S. Korea for Kumhos) or US made is the way to go.

Find out what brands have the best temperature rating, you can search tires for your specific vehicle on Tire Rack's website.

^THIS....

And always buy the warranty. We've gotten 'nailed' more than a few times. It's not as fun as it sounds. lol

If the cracks bother you, you can try a tire dressing with UV blockers to try to prevent it in the future.

I use Opti-Bond from Optimum myself. Tuf-Shine has a reputation for lasting a really long time. Heard good things about CarPro PERL also.

I drive on only Michelin now and use Opti Bond also to keep the tire walls from drying out.
