Yeah I'm wondering about how I'll end up dealing with a pool when I have a place, because I've never had an unheated pool since that's not really possible in Oregon, though in Vegas I'm sure the sun heats the pool all you could want for 3-4 months of the year, then the rest of the time I'd assume it's still worthwhile to have a heated pool. Except in the winter, too cold for swimming, more like hot tub time. I can't imagine it would be that expensive to heat the pool for 5-6 months of the year, though. At least, I think it'd be worthwhile but I love pools I think around 86-88 is my preferred pool temperature. Any colder is too cold unless it's over 100 degrees outside, then honestly anything around 82-86 I think would be fine because you're trying to cool off.

We tried to heat the pool one time in December. Our son was visiting so we thought we would try it. It ran for 10 hrs and went from 52 degrees up to 70 before I shut it off. Waste of time and $45 worth of gas! We've used it numerous times to heat the spa and love that part! I'll wait for summer to swim.

How old is the heater. Mine is pentair and it’s quick to heat and affordable

That was my question too. Is your heater 400k BTU? That is what you need for quick efficient heating. Also the newer models like Pentair are more efficient.

I have no idea how old it is. We bought this house back in August. Pool guy we had for a couple months figured about 10 years old. We don't use the spa much so that is one expense we can wait for. Just had a new pump installed today so the heater is the least of my worries until winter!

We did. Turns out my son has business connections with Hayward and was able to get us a Tristar VS pump. Had it installed today. Would have preferred a Pentair but the price was right it cost us nothing.

The trick of course is an oversized heater. We could bring our spa in LA up from 40 or so to 100 in 20 minutes. But it would also bring the main pool up in 8 hours...cost around $30 for a weekend.

So you spend the money on oversized heater. Makes winter much more pleasant. Our pool is covered and is warm enough from now to at least October. In fact in July and August we have to open it periodically to keep it out of the 100s.

Nothing is a GREAT price! I just had a new Pentair VS and it was far more expensive than that
