I am fair skinned and burn quite easily, I even burn sitting in the shade. I use Blue Lizard almost exclusively here at home during the Summer and they do have one made just for the face. I do have to say that while I was there in April I had to buy a small container while out and about and I stopped into a Walgreens and got a small tub of their offbrand zinc oxide and it worked super well and was inexpensive. I used it on my face and had no problem close to my eyes.

I use Shiseido's Urban Environment UV Protection Cream, has an SPF of 40. Really nice if you happen to have oily skin. Can be used on face and neck. I use Banana Boat's misting sunscreen for the rest of my body out of convenience... also I hate getting my hands all white and having that tacky feeling.

Walking 300 ft from a parking lot to a gig is not enough to get sunburned, even here. I wouldn't want to have my nose covered with zinc oxide for a 10 minute walk. I would wear sunglasses and a hat and leave it at that. Or better yet, park in the garage. Almost all of the casino/venues have them.

I'm fair complexioned and will burn although I'll tan if I gradually expose myself to the sun. That said, the best stuff that I've found available in the US that is reasonably priced for daily use is Eucerin facial lotion, SPF 30. It's zinc oxide, but its consistency is thin. The primary mistake most people make with zinc oxide based sunscreens is that they rub them in, not on. You should liberally apply it. Zinc Oxide is safe and protects from UVA A & B rays. This is something that you should apply every day. Apply heavily if you will be in the sun more than 30 minutes.

This doesn't have much zinc oxide or titanium oxide, so its UVA-protecting abilities are probably limited. But it looks as if it would be good for daily use protection (meaning, not for use if you are going to be sitting out in direct sun, but good for simply out doing errands and such).

It's hard to find a high zinc oxide sunscreen that does not leave a white caste on the skin.

Actually, it works quite well in direct sun for long periods of time so long as you apply a nice thick coat (should leave a noticeably white film on your skin). I'm a pale northern Euro type, and I've used it for about fifteen years now and never get anything if I'm in the sun for hours (without reapplying either). Spent entire day at Disney in 100+ heat with bald head and no hat.. got no tan, no burn, but almost had a heat stroke at one point and had to make a dash for A/C.

If it's just walking short distances from / to your car, a wide brim hat will do the trick.

Somebody else indicated that you can't get burned in just a short time under the hot sun, but I can, amazingly quickly. I can't wear a hat and manage my instrument and bag, besides which I look ridiculous in them at my height (6'3" ), assuming I could find one to fit me.

Im not in LV, but am extremely fair and can burn in just a few minutes. Blue Lizard for the face is my go to sunscreen.
