I recently moved to Las Vegas and have applied at several casinos. I notice they want you to get certain cards to work in the casinos. My question is I have a felony from 2001 for drugs in WA state and I wanted to know is that going to prevent me from getting these cards. I do not know what a tam card is, is that a sheriff card? I also need to get a gaming license. The job is players club rep and they called me in for an interview. So basically am I going to pass the background checks and get approved for the cards. Thank you for your help.

When you can, get your record expunged! Good luck!

Doubt you get the gaming registration. The feds do the background check for NVGCB. The only thing you do have working for you is the length of time.

Was there a question on the application whether or not you were charged with a felony?

They will not issue a gaming license with ANY felony on your record. You can get it expunged but you still are required to let them know about any arrests regardless of the outcome. Wasn't there another felon that asked the same question not long ago?

The only way to get a criminal record expunged is if there is legal reason to do so (improper conviction, problem with the trial, etc.). This is neither quick nor cheap to do, and it isn't a matter of hiring the "right lawyer". A court will not expunge your record for convenience.

You can also get your record expunged after X years without trouble with the law. My BIL was convicted of a felony weapons charge. He was a teacher so that meant he could not teach with this conviction on his record. He waited the number of years he had to and then got it expunged.

It's a real money grab and the lawyers love to see you coming. But it can be done.
