I wanted to find out if anyone on this forum has moved from North Carolina, specifically the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area, to the Las Vegas metropolitan area. I would appreciate a list of pros and cons from those of you who have made the move and whether you are happy that you made the move. As my kids are getting older and having seen what the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area has to offer educationally, I am beginning to consider whether relocation makes sense. All feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Don’t do it.

This valley is a mistake if you have kids. It’s wonderful for retirement if you have a bit of cash to go out whenever you want, and enjoy the heat or entertainment and terrific restaurants we have.

We already live here. However, our kids are getting older now, and we feel like we have hit the ceiling on what the area has to offer educationally. We homeschool, and my wife and I both feel we are at a point where we need more educational resources available to our kids. We visited the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area this summer and were impressed with what the area had to offer especially for older kids. There also are four excellent universities nearby which we also liked.

I moved from Wilson to here. Best thing I ever did. I had 2 kids.

North Carolina is the worst place on the planet as far as I am concerned.

Pros
Not North Carolina
Cost of living is low
Income potential is high
24 hour life
Endless entertainment
Consistent weather
Very few bugs
No grass to mow
No hillbilly accent to deal with
The electric company doesn't bend you over a barrel like they do in NC
There's actually jobs here
Less traffic

Cons
Californians
Mormons
Crap drivers
Cops
Tourists
That one month of winter
HOAs
Gated communities
Speed bumps sooo many speed bumps

Not sure why Mormons would be singled out as a con, versus the many other religious groups present in the Las Vegas Valley?

I am planning to move my family to RTP this October, My employer is closing the doors here in Vegas and I have the option of RTP or Oregon. I think the raleigh/Durham/Chappel Hill areas are nice but I was only there for a weekend. I will be watching this thread like a seagull.

any info is good info.

Most prevalent. And the other religions don't knock on my door.

Yet. So apparently, no basis to this "con". Those are trivial reasons to be singled out. Other religions in the valley go door to door as well.

ETA: There is no need to DM me. If you make a statement on the public forums, then you ought to be willing to back up your claims in public view.

Hello, I am from RDU moving to Henderson this month. I'd live in RDU for 10 years. You might be correct on schools and universities but I am moving to be closer to my family. I know for a fact that I won't regret my decision plus I feel like my culture is more open in the West than in the South. To be honest I am very excited about this move. Though NC does not get a lot of snow I still prefer sunny days than colder days. Career wise and profession Nevada is supportive with what I do benefit wise and compensation. Plus when you figure it out still Nevada has low cost of living than RDU I don't understand why RDU people think that NC has cheap cost of living maybe when you compare it up North or Cali but not to Nevada.
