Job Market in Vegas/Would I Fit In?
Hello all,
I am a 23-year-old man with a slight developmental disability (Asperger's).
I have been unsuccessfully trying to find a job here in MN for six months and am thinking about and researching LV. These are the things I find attractive:
24-hour city (particularly some of the bus route as I cannot drive)
Warm weather
No state income tax
Reasonable cost of living
Close to family in CA without paying CA prices
I heard that the market for entry level work is good out there (other than construction or anything housing-related). Is this true? I am looking for entry level work in either retail (preferably grocery) or hospitality. Also, I love to eat, drink and have a good time. So would I fit in well here? Thanks for any answers.

My opinion...you'd fit in just perfect. You have family close enough in Cali and your job requirements would fit in just right with what's available here in town. I don't know if starting level retail sales wages here in LV would be a factor or not...they can be quite low...$7.25-$9.00 per hour in some cases and a lot of those types of jobs are for part time only?
If that is not a issue (and you should have a job already, before you move out here) then much good luck to you, and welcome!

"and you should have a job already, before you move out here"
Is that possible, or is it still the case where I would need to already live there?

You can try sending in some resumes online, but be prepared to come here at a quick notice if you're asked to.
If you have the funds available and can move here and not worry about income...then by all means...do so! A Las Vegas address is definately a big PLUS when looking for any kind of job here.
Otherwise, it's gonna be a bit tough to move here, get settled, pay the moving expenses, set up a place to live and get some food, then start looking for a job...if you don't have some funds to get you through until you secure employment.

As a teacher, I have worked with students with Asperger's and my concern for you would be having a support system. Do you live on your own now? I don't think that Las Vegas would be a good place for you to start living on your own if you haven't already had some experience doing that. Yes we have a public transportation system but it is not as sophisticated as other cities.
Is your family in California "close" family? Sorry to sound negative, but I would be worried that you would get lost here without the proper support.
