Well, you had better learn that government, laws, and ordinances in your self-percieved mailing addresses have strict boundries. Maybe you should run for mayorship of the "Lakes" NV.

I hate to burst any one's bubble, but the population of the entire state of New Mexico is less than the population of the metropolitan area of Las Vegas.
I love Albuquerque and hated to leave. But realistically, I know it isn't perfect. I met some really nice people there, and some really awful people there. I find it hard to trust anyone from Albuq. But the city and state have great things to offer. History, food, art and culture, food, architecture, food, beauty, and did I mention the food? I can't do the gonzo outdoor stuff anymore, but I like to be close to it, and that doesn't get any better than in New Mexico. And it isn't WAY MORE HUMID than Nevada. It is SLIGHTLY more humid, and it is cooler because it is high desert. Cool enough for four seasons.
My wife prefers Albuquerque, so we look at real estate there every now and then and are familiar with the market. A while back we put a contingency offer on a new house to be built in Bernalillo. Then the real estate market crashed EVERYWHERE and we couldn't make the move. RE had changed a lot since 1988-91, but not like here. The house we lost money on when we came back to Las Vegas is still a very beautiful house, but it hadn't appreciated anywhere near the way houses in Vegas had over the same period of time. New homes weren't nearly as expensive either, which is one reason we wanted to move back there. The economy and housing market there has always been on a roller coaster, and it still is.
I was involved in business there and never met such cut-throat a**holes in my life. The born and raised gringos there are jealous of cities like Las Vegas and generally hate outsiders, so they will either be rude to your face, or they will stab you in the back while smiling at your face. They don't want new business there if it means people coming from another state. They especially hate Las Vegans. Despite all that, most people fall in love with Albuq.
I don't like anyplace better than Las Vegas, but Albuq. has some advantages that might have been better for us. That ship has sailed though.

And living in Albuquerque you are only an hours drive from Las Vegas, New Mexico ! Once a booming rail road town is just another dumpy town. But it is high elevation and nice and cool up there.
Once East Las Vegas and West Las Vegas was divided by the Gallinis River. Today they are all one city. Pop. About 14,500

Your from there Buzz? We always stop in or outside of the city at one of the nice campgrounds there as we are passing through towards Texas. Next April we will be attending what is billed as "The greatest RV rally in the world" in Albuquerque. We did the one in Redmond. WA 2 years ago and last year it was Perry, GA which was too far to make. The Rally 2009
We will be RV camping on the grounds but usually rent a car to see the local sights. So if there is any "must sees" in the area you can pass on a couple.

only made it to LV, NM once (i was on a greyhound headed somewhere...). can't say the town was all that impressive (although all i really saw was a gas station/bus stop/McD's), but the high plains sure made for some impressive lightning storms for the ride out.

hey DS41:
i know you addressed buzz, but i grew up in NM and have still have family in ABQ, so i might be of some help. must see's kinda depend on the person....i would say for the casual tourist, head up into the sandia's (maybe take the tram if it is open for the season yet). if you feel like branching out, drive up to santa fe (about an hour north).
that being said, anything w/ altitude will still be a bit chilly in april (ABQ is basically the same altitude as denver, so it might have a chill there as well).
if nothing else, enjoy the food. i miss it immensely (hopefully i will get some time to drive out and get me a sack of chile before the harvest is over). get some carne adovada and don't forget the sopapillas...can't really find either outside the state (you'll find facsimiles, but not quite the real thing).

sure the sheriff actually seems to be able to write complete sentences using proper english....but, not being an expert on multiple personality disorders, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that different personalities display different grammatical skills.

One thing I do not like about this forum software is that it doesn't post your service provider or part of your IP adress. There is a forum called MovetoLasVegas and they can tell if someone is posting under 2 different names. Some people can get around that with a proxy, but most do not even know how to do that.
