I lived in LV for 4 years before I moved from Vegas to NJ last year and now I'm moving back to Vegas this summer. I really don't think I would be as happy living anywhere else as I would in LV. Just make a list of your pros and cons for moving, then make a decision if it would be worth it or not.

nd.....why do you want to move back to Las Vegas

We see the posts from the unhappy ones complain they want to move out and their reasons for doing so..

What is it that you miss here in LV? Would be nice to hear your reasons ...if you want to share that is...

And welcome back by the way!

Thanks MomMom!

My wife and I had our first child last year and decided that we would rather raise her on the east coast closer to family and better schools. However being in NJ our nearest family member (wife's father and grandparents) were still an hour drive away. The rest of our families were a 6 hour or more drive in NH and Maine. And of course we were the ones to always have to make the drive. Not that easy with a baby and a dog. Also my wife's job didn't turn out to be all she had hoped it would be and ended up working more hours for less money than in Vegas. Combine all that with the extremely high cost of living in NJ with crappy weather and that made us realize how much we missed Vegas.

It also seems that people in NJ have lived there most if not all their lives and aren't interested in new friends. It's a lot harder to meet other people and we have some really good friends still in Vegas.

We love Vegas weather, all the conveniences, and jobs for my wife are plentiful. And of course the crazy good deals you can get on houses right now. At first we thought we should have never left, but then it really helped us realize that Vegas is where we truly want to be. Plus moving to NJ stopped us from buying a house before the market really took a dump, so everything happened for a reason.

I've also been researching private schools in LV and they seem to reasonably affordable.

So basically it was a no brainer for us to move back. We loved it when we first moved to LV and we are going to love it even more the second time.

I haven't left Las Vegas yet, but plan to in a few years when my husband retires. We've both been here since the 60's, and it's time for a change. It's not the town we grew up in, that's for sure.

The city does have its good points, things we will miss. When you read about ice storms shutting down everything in the East or Midwest and it's a clear sunny 70 degree February day, you can't help but smirk a little. Yes, it does get very hot in the summer, but 8-9 months of the year are quite tolerable. Dry heat is a cliche, but it happens to be true.

And when we occasionally go for a budget-buster dinner, you can't beat the choices here - There are too many wonderful restaurants to count. We don't go out a lot, but the times we have gone all out for a fine meal, we just haven't been disappointed. The Venetian, the Wynn... Yes, expensive, but for that kind of meal, it's going to be expensive anywhere. We're lucky to have the variety and quality we do. Obviously, not everyone can afford it, and few can afford it often, but boy, when you do want to splurge, it's divine.

Love Rebel basketball. Their games are a blast to go to.

Mount Charleston is just a hop skip and a jump away if you want to cool off in the summer. There's some skiing there in the winter, but Brianhead is worth the extra drive for quality.

Golf? Tons of great courses. Not cheap, but really, how cheap is golf anywhere?

Shopping? World class. Plus some nice outlet malls, so you don't have to spent a fortune on quality goods.

Downsides? Naturally. It's a big city. Traffic SUCKS.

The state of the public schools is appalling, although there are some decent magnet schools. Those are limited in the spaces available - maybe your kid gets in, maybe not.

Crime is increasing, in what used to be nice areas. The housing market is a roller coaster lately. Tweakers are a problem. The homeless are bad in certain parts of town. There are a lot of smokers, especially in the casinos. Addictions tend to run in packs, if you know what I mean. But if you don't frequent casinos, the many smokers don't bother me much.

The town is what you make of it.

If you don't gamble, stay away from the strip for the most part, and just go about the business of raising a family, it's really like any other city of its size, except the sidewalks never roll up at night.

I want out, yes. But I don't think it's a horrible place, just not what I'm looking for in retirement. I just want out of city life altogether - any big city.
