Fresh & Easy is similar in ways to Whole foods on a much smaller scale and without the high prices. They also have an extensive collection of meats of which I do not buy so I have no idea how it is. Why not stop in there and check it out?

This is good to know. I always go to Wild Oats but have seen the Fresh & Easy on Ft. Apache and D.I. (??) and think I will try it this weekend.

It actually reminds me of a mix of Food 4 Less and Whole Foods... its a very basic grocery store, but man, they have some good stuff and great prices.
But back to Albertsons vs Smiths.. I agree Smiths is a little dirty, especially the one at Sunset and Mountain Vista. Albertsons seem to have the friendliest people.

I'd be curious to know what groceries cost per month in Las Vegas. Here in Manhattan it runs about $600 per month for 2 people. That's with eating out a couple of times a week for dinner and the same for lunch.

After years of shopping at Smith's, Albertson's, and Von's, I have recently converted to Wal-Mart----as I shop at 4-6am, and avoid the normal clientel. The prices for what I buy, is generally 30-40% less, and the quality, and price of meats and produce is superior to the others. If you require "specialty" items, forget about it---but for basics, Wal-Mart is my choice.

We easily spend between $800 - $1000 a month on groceries for a family of five per month. We eat out anywhere between 4-8 times per month for dinner and lunch is probably about 4 times. I also have a teenager with a hollow leg so that needs to be factored in.

Albertsons varies on the store, some are absolutely horrible (like Eastern/Horizon Ridge and Maryland/Silverado Ranch) and some are nice like (Nellis/Vegas Valley)...

I track it in my budgeting and spend about 400-420 just for me. I do a lot of cooking though, and that can get expensive; especially if I am making a Ina Garten recipe. Its not too bad, but it seems to be kreeping up each month. If I could settle for just eating lucky charms each day like I did in college, Im sure it would be much cheaper.

In my household, 2+2(2 adults, 2 cats) we spend between $80-$120 a week for food, necessities, cat supplies. Most of the money goes to fruits and vegetables, but we try to buy whats in season to save money.
We also only eat out once a month. I never go to fast food places.
